Greene County Special Olympics equestrain team has good showing at state games

The Special Olympics Indiana-Greene County Equestrian team recently took part in the State Equestrian Games.

The games were conducted on Sept. 9-10 at the Hendricks County Fairgrounds in Danville.

This year, 106 riders from across the state, took part in this two-day event.

Riders of all ages and abilities competed in a wide range of equestrian events for both Western and English riders. Each of the classes were divided into separate classes for supported riders, those needing assistance with their horses, and independent classes. Each of the classes is then divided down into Walk Only, Walk/Trot and Walk/Trot/Canter classes.

This year's Greene County team included BobbieSue Hayden from Jasonville, Cara Isenogle from Bloomfield, Anthony Johns from Sullivan, Steve McGovern from Bloomington, and Marissa Schneck from Linton.

BobbieSue and her horse Skip N Sonny, a 26-year-old Quarter Horse, received Gold Medals in Showmanship Walk/Trot(supported) and Western Equitation Walk/Trot(supported) and a Bronze Medal in Western Trail Walk/Trot(supported).

Cara and her horse Louie, an 18-year-old Appaloosa, received fourth place in Showmanship Walk/Trot(supported), fifth place in Western Equitation Walk/Trot(independent) and a Gold Medal in Western Riding(independent).

Anthony Johns and his horse Champ, a Tennessee Walker, received Silver Medals in Horse Part Identification and Showmanship Walk(supported) and a Gold Medal in Western Equitation Walk(supported).

Steve and his horse Smokey, a 27-year-old Quarter Horse, received Gold Medals in Showmanship Walk(supported) and Western Trail Walk/Trot(independent) and a Silver Medal in Western Equitation Walk/Trot(independent).

Marissa Schneck and her horse Dezi, a Quarter Horse, received Silver Medals in Western Equitation Walk (independent) and Western Trail Walk (independent).
