Lady Miners honor seniors with win

The Linton-Stockton Lady Miners honored their seniors with a 24-26, 25-14, 25-22, 16-25, 15-13 win over Cloverdale Thursday night.

The Lady Miners improved to 18-12 on the year and will take part in a round robin tournament with Clay City and South Vermillion on Saturday to close out the regular season.

"I thought the teams were evenly matched tonight," Linton-Stockton coach Jill Fougerousse said. "I like my team to be challenged facing hitters like Cloverdale's Bradanne Toney. She is a fine all around player."

After dropping the first set of the match to the Lady Clovers, Fougerousse said she saw a nice recovery from her team and was pleased with their effort despite the match going the distance.

"I was very proud of the girls for stepping it up and going out on the floor in the second game after losing a close one in the first game," she said. "Senior night is always an emotional night and we want the seniors to step up and play well. Jannae (Jackson), Kayla (Cox) and Sydney (Lehman) did just that."

Jackson closed out the contest with a perfect night at the service line going 18 for 18. She also added an assist and 38 digs.

Cox finished with 10 of 11 serving, three kills, 46 assists, 15 digs and one block assist while Lehman was 14 for 14 at the line with three aces, 17 kills, 10 digs and one block assist.

"It has been very fulfilling coaching these three young ladies and seeing them mature on and off the volleyball court," Fougerousse said. "They work hard and are fierce competitors."
