Hughes family says thanks

for helping locate father

To the Editor:

Dave and Fran Hughes would like to express our deep gratitude to the 20+ Search and Rescue, law enforcement, and fire department personnel and friends and neighbors who came out on Sunday evening to locate our elderly father, Frank Campbell, who had become disoriented on his walk.

Everyone was courteous, calm, and quite professional. Frank was found unharmed (after being missing for several hours) by Randy Jackson of Search and Rescue. Representatives from the Greene County Sheriff's office, the Linton Police Department, the Linton Fire Department and the volunteers from Search and Rescue were all present -- and although we didn't get all the names, we are most appreciative of each person's selfless dedication.

Special thanks to neighbors Janet and John Moyer, and sons Kenny, Todd, and Wes Landis who came out to help. And thanks to so many others for their prayers. Thank you and God bless you!

National Drug Take

Back Day was a success

To the Editor:

Greene County Soil & Water Conservation District wants to thank everyone in Greene County for his or her support on National Drug Take Back Day, Oct. 29.

There was a total of 194 pounds of narcotics and over-the-counter meds collected along with 42 pounds of sharps for a total of 236 pounds. These meds and sharps were taken to Covanta in Indianapolis by the Bloomfield Sheriff's Department. The collection will be destroyed by fire.

That is a great job, Greene County, considering there was no advertising budget.

Refuge Assembly of God, Tulip Church of God, Sylvania Weslyan Church, and Trinity Lutheran united and provided volunteers as well as food for this effort. Countless other churches announced the collection from their pulpits and distributed handbills with information. The Center Township Fire Department, Richland-Taylor Townships Fire Department, and Linton Family Pharmacy were collection sites.

There were reserve officers at each site to ensure safety and chain of command. Those officers were: Greg Flinn, Josh Fuller, Jeff Payton, Nick Yingling, and Clayton Kendall.

Thank you to the following people for helping to make this a successful adventure: Cheri Campbell, Debbie Housman, Rita Sharr, Judy Cullison, Tammy Dawson, Sue and Monte McIntosh, Eugene Davis, and Teri Simmons. Could not have done this without all their efforts.

Sincere thanks from the GCSWCD Board of Supervisors.
