Thursday

* The Saron Church, located at 310 NE First Street in Linton, will be hosting the annual free holiday dinner from 5-7 p.m. Delivery is available in the Linton area by calling 847-4911. Santa will be visiting at 6 p.m. The Toys for Tots distribution for western Greene County will be during the same time.

Friday, Dec. 23

* Write a letter to Santa at the Linton Public Library! Through Christmas, children may visit the library to receive a letter for Santa. Once completed, the letter can be placed in a special mailbox at the library's circulation desk. Children who write letters will receive a note from Santa, as well as a treat for Santa's furry friends. The library has additional holiday gifts for those up pick up returned letters first. Returned letters and treats can be picked up at the library Dec. 19 to Dec. 23. Contact the library at 847-7802 for details.

* Briley Chapel, located 1.5 miles East of State Road 159 on State Road 246 East of Lewis, will be holding a candle light service at 7 p.m. Dinner will precede at 6 p.m. Everyone is welcome.

Saturday, Dec. 24

* Trinity Lutheran Church will be hosting a Christmas Eve Service at 7 p.m. The church is located at 1759 E. State Road 54 in Linton.

* The congregation of Prarie Chapel United Methodist Church, located on S.R. 57 north of Newberry, invites you to its traditional Christmas Eve Candle Light service which will begin at 11:30 p.m. The Christmas Story, Christmas Carols and candlights will help you experience the beauty of the Christmas season.

* Lyons First Christian Church will be having a Christmas Eve Candle light service at 7 p.m.

* The Linton First United Methodist Church, located at 150 NE Second Street, will be having a Christmas Eve Candelight service at 8 p.m. called "A Baby Changes Everything".

* The Linton Public Library will be closed for the Christmas holiday.

Sunday, Dec. 25

* Trinity Lutheran Church will be hosting a Christmas Day Birthday Party for Jesus at 11 a.m. The church is located at 1759 E. State Hwy 54 in Linton.

* The Calvary Baptist Church, on Hwy 54 in Linton, will have Sunday School at 9:30 a.m., and regular services at 10:30 a.m. and 7 p.m. We will be presenting a one-act play during the 7 p.m. service entitled "The Christmas Trunk".

Monday, Dec. 26

* The Linton Public Library will be closed for the Christmas holiday.

Thursday, Dec. 29

* Visit Linton City Hall from 1-3 p.m. to offer Mayor Patti Jones a farewell, and wish her well in her future endevours, as John Wilkes will be taking over the office in January. There will be cake and punch for the visitors.

Sunday, Jan. 1

* Today is the deadline to apply for the Citizen's Academy through the Linton Police Department. Applications can be found online at www.lintonpolice.com or at the Linton Police Department. The Academy is a 10 week program that allows citizens to undergo some of the same training as police officers.

* What if your life were different? What if you made different decisions? Bloomfield First Baptist Church is hosting a free viewing of the movie "What if" at 5 p.m. Come start your new year with us, and we'll share dinner and a discussion after the show. Please call the church office at 384-8459 to RSVP so we know how many to expect for dinner.

Monday, Jan. 2

* The Linton Public Library will be closed for the New Year's holiday.

* The Greene County Hospital Auxiliary will meet at 1:30 in the conference room.

Tuesday, Jan. 3

* The city of Linton will start booking reservations for city park shelters at the mayor's office, beginning at 8:30 a.m. Reservations will be given on a first come, first serve basis, with numbers available to early arrivers. Applications will be available and payments must be made at the time of confirmation. Those unable to make it to the mayor's office may call after 1 p.m., and pay the next day. Shelters will be closed Aug. 21, Sept. 1 and Sept. 2.

March 20, 2012

* Greene County Emergency Management will sponsor a Tornado Spotter's Course in the Conference Room of the Greene County Extension Service Building at the fairgrounds. Contact the Emergency Management office at 384-4127 for more information.

* The Friends of the Goose Pond calendar for 2012 is now on sale for $10. The calendar includes photos taken in the Goose Pond Fish and Wildlife Area. Calendars will be available on the FoGP website, www.friendsofgoosepond.org, at Main Street Gifts in Linton, at the DNR barn (Hwy 59 south of Linton) and from the board members listed on the site. If ordering by mail, include an additional $2.95 for shipping and handling per calendar. * The Switz City Christian Church Alzheimer's Support Group will meet the first Monday of each month at 6 p.m.

* Pleasant Grove Farm's fifth annual Christmas Musical will be presented Sunday, Dec. 11 through Sunday, Dec. 25. The shows start at 6 p.m. and last until 10 p.m. it is located 4 miles south of Linton on 300 S between 1100 W and 1050 W. * The Roosevelt Mission will be hosting a Christmas party for need children from newborn to 12-years-old who are not signed up for Toys For Tots. To sign up, visit the Mission at 89 East Vincennes Street in Linton from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday until Dec. 20. Toys, cookies, volunteers and monetary donations are needed. * The Linton 12th Street Church of God will have Bible study every Thursday night in the Fellowship Hall at 7 p.m. with coffee and snacks, beginning Dec. 1.

* Starting Nov. 14 the Linton Public Library will begin operating daily book sales. Any time the library is open, patrons may browse the book sale aisle for books, VHS, books on cassette, audio books, and DVDs. The book sale aisle is now located at the front of the library. Please pay for purchases at the circulation desk.

* Linton Tri Kappa has cheese balls available. Cheese balls with nuts are $6.50 and cheese balls plain are $6. Contact Beth Gillan at 847-2010 or any Tri Kappa member to order.

* The leaf pick-up schedule in Linton will be the day after your normal trash pick-up day.

* Bloomfield American Legion Post 196 bingo is every Thursday night. Doors open at 5:30 p.m., and early-bird games begin at 6 p.m., and regular games at 7 p.m.

* Pleasant Grove Church of Christ will host an event each Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. If you have been searching for answers concerning how to strengthen your family relationship, and discover your calling in life, then the church has something that will help. There will be a meal and then a DVD presentation. Other topics covered will be finances, health, handling conflict, overcoming anger, overcoming addictions, and many other critical topics that pertain to marriages and families. * The 2011 Greene County plat books are now available. They can be purchased for $20 at the Greene County Soil & Water Conservation office, 104 CR 70, E. in the USDA building. For more information call 384-4781, extension 3 for more information.

* The WorkOne Linton office, located in the Linton Shopping Center, is offering free computer classes to anyone who wants to improve their skills. Classes are offered for complete beginners, as well as Microsoft Word and Excel software. There will be classes Nov. 18, Dec. 9 and Dec. 16. Beginner classes are 8:30-9:30 a.m.; Word classes are 9:30-11 a.m. and Excel classes are 11-12:30 p.m. Since there is some limitation to space, call the office at 847-4479 to reserve your seat.

* The Linton Public Library is now operating at its winter hours: Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Saturday 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.; Sunday, closed.

* The Hobbieville Christian Fellowship Church will host a gospel sing the second Saturday of each month at 6 p.m. There will be food served.

* The Linton-Stockton High School class of 2012 is selling Miner discount cards for $5. These cards are available from senior students and parents, and offer valuable discounts from local businesses. You can also purchase tickets at Regions Bank, Linton Sporting Goods or by calling Rennae Lehman at 699-0907.

* The board of directors of the Peavey Cemetery is planning to replace the old flagpole and flag at the entrance. Anyone wishing to donate to the cause, please contact board members Danny Keller, John Hubbell, Fred Hubbell or Lorene Pell. * Meals on Wheels is now available at the Lyons Senior Citizens Center starting at 11:30 a.m. Please call 847-3509 the day before you plan to attend. For those who are homebound and need meals delivered, call 2-1-1 or 1-800-742-9002.

* WorkOne in Linton is hosting a new program for employers. The AARP Foundation WorkSearch program offers employers a chance to have workers for two to three weeks at no cost so it will ensure that it's a good match before you hire them full-time. * There will be a family/Christian movie night at Woodland Bible Camp from 7-10 p.m. It will be the second Friday of every month. Please bring your favorite finger food or dessert.

* The Main Branch of the Bloomfield-Eastern Greene County Public Library will have a Safari Tots Storytime for children ages 2 - 3 years Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m. Explore the world of animals through stories, games and crafts. The Trekkers Storytime is for children entering grades 1-5, Tuesdays at 1:30 p.m. Come in and "trek" around the world through stories, games, and crafts. Students, entering grades 6-12, will have a Movie Mania program at 6 p.m., preregistration is required for all teen programs, limit 12. Movie presented will be "I am Number Four." * Books for Babies is a national literacy program that acquaints parents and newborns with the important role they play in the development of their children. Parents are presented with a Books for Babies kit containing a book, baby's first library card and brochures with reading tips for parents and caregivers. If you are a new mother and a resident of Greene County in one of the following townships -- Richland, Highland, Taylor, Beech Creek, Center or Jackson -- you are eligible for a free gift for you and your baby. Please bring your baby in "to show him/her off" to the circulation desk in the Bloomfield-Eastern Greene County Public Library, 125 Franklin St. in Bloomfield to receive your free gift.

* The Bohley Cemetery board is taking donations for upkeep at the cemetery. For more information call 384-8375.

* Bingo at the American Legion in Worthington is on Fridays. Doors open at 4:30 p.m. with games at 6:15 p.m. This is open to the public. Cost is $30 for 15 games All proceeds go to the Worthington American Legion. This event is non-smoking with breaks made for smokers to go outdoors.

* The First Christian Church in Dugger is continuing a study of the book of Revelation on Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m. The study is taught by Minister Jerry Carmichael. Workbooks are available for those wanting to learn more. For more information call Carmichael at 648-3043 or 648-2323.

* A 12-Step Overcomers Recovery Support Meeting is held every Wednesday at the Family Life Center on the East side of the square in Bloomfield from 7:30 p.m.-8:30 p.m. Come and join us to overcome life-controlling problems of all sorts with Bible principles, prayer, memory verses and weekly support. * The Clay County WIC program is in Jasonville at the Senior Center on the second Wednesday of each month from 9 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.

* The Lyons Community Pantry at 150 East Broad Street (the old fire station) will be open from 3-6 p.m. the third Monday of every month, serving zip codes 47443, and 47465.

* The newly appointed Worthington Park Board will host meetings at 6 p.m. on each first Wednesday of the month at the Worthington Municipal Building in downtown Worthington. The public is welcome to attend.

* Mineral United Methodist Church will have Bible study from 7 - 8 p.m. on the second, third and fourth Wednesdays of the month.

* The Alzheimer's Support Group meeting will be at the Switz City Christian Church fellowship hall on State Road 54 in Switz City. The meeting will be the first Tuesday of each month at 5:30 p.m. If you have questions, call 798-1589.

* The mobile food pantry will be at the Jasonville United Methodist Church from 10 a.m. to ? on the first Wednesday of the month.

* The Back Door Food Pantry is open from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. on the third Saturday of the month.

* Narcotics Anonymous will meet Saturdays at 7 p.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church on State Road 54 East. There will be open discussion and all are welcome.

* Lebanon Baptist Food Pantry will only be open on the fourth Thursday of each month from 6-7:30 p.m.

* The Refuge Assembly of God food pantry will be open every Wednesday from 1-5 p.m. to assist those living in Bloomfield. To donate, please contact Trina at 384-8093 during the pantry's open hours.

* The Mineral Christian Men's Group meets at 8 a.m. every third Saturday of the month at the Mineral Community Building.

* House of Grace Coffee House will offer fellowship, food, worship and youth classes. The church is located at 792 S. Section St. in Dugger.

* The Pleasantville United Methodist Church food pantry is now open on the second and fourth Saturdays of the month from 10:30 a.m. - noon.

* The Lyons First Christian Church youth group meets at 6 p.m. on Mondays at the church's East Broad Street location.
