Bloomfield man charged with theft after allegedly taking trading cards
A Bloomfield man, who was found earlier this month hiding on shelf behind some boxes in the Linton Super Walmart Store with a silver knife in his hand used to cut open a package of a popular playing card game, has been preliminarily charged with theft and trespassing.
William S. Wilson was arrested and released from jail after posting $500 cash bond. He is expected to be in Greene Circuit Court for an 8:30 a.m. initial hearing Friday.
Wilson will be formerly charged in connection with the April 12 incident in which he allegedly was observed by a store asset protection employee trying to conceal in his clothing "Magic: The Gathering" playing cards, according to a probable cause affidavit filed by Linton Police Officer Brock Garrison.
"Magic: The Gathering" is a widely played trading card game. Players take on the role of Planeswalkers, and their weapons include spells, creatures, and artifacts gathered from a vast multiverse of unique fantasy worlds. The game has more than 12 million players and fans worldwide in more than 70 countries, according to the game's website.
Wilson told police that he decided which cards he wanted to steal then went to the bike aisle in the toy section because he felt it was secluded. The suspect then allegedly climbed on a shelf behind some boxes and cut open the package of cards and then attempted to conceal them in his clothing, but was discovered by the store security worker, according to the probable cause affidavit.
It wasn't Wilson's first legal trouble at Walmart.
Wilson was caught shoplifting at the Linton Walmart in January 2011 and at that time had signed a trespass warning -- prohibiting him from being on any property owned by Walmart.
"Wilson summed up his story by stating that he had made stupid decisions," Officer Garrison wrote in his probable cause affidavit.
