Union lets lead slip away

Thursday, April 19, 2012

Union led 6-1 after three innings, but Hutsonville, Ill. rallied for seven unanswered runs as the visitors won 8-6 in a high school softball game Thursday at Dugger.

"We started off pretty strong and got up 6-1," said UHS coach Chriss Jobe, who's Lady Bulldogs slipped to 0-8. "We were feeling pretty good about ourselves at that point. We had two errors and a walk in the fourth and all three of them scored in their five-run inning.

"They were able to tied it up at 6-all and then pushed across two more runs in the sixth. We need to clean up a few things and play seven strong innings. We played six today."

Shelby Parr and Kolbi Reynolds each hit doubles for the Lady Bulldogs.

Reynolds finished 2-for-4 and scored a run while Parr finished with two hits and two RBIs.

Hallie Smith was 2-for-3 with a stolen base and two runs scored.

Autumn Secrest scored twice, drove in one and had a base hit.

Olivia Pinkston was 1-for-3 with an RBI. Shania Hale scored a run.

"We got some runners on in the last four innings, but could not get them around," said Jobe. "We are getting closer, but have yet to put a complete game together."

The Lady Bulldogs will play at 5 p.m. Friday (today) at West Vigo. They will host Cloverdale at 10 a.m. Saturday. Both contests will be followed by a junior varsity game.
