BHS squeezes by Sullivan

The Bloomfield Lady Cardinal tennis improved their season record to 6-2 with a close 3-2 road win over Sullivan Thursday afternoon.

Bloomfield could manage only one singles win but a sweep of doubles gave the Cards the 3-2 victory.

At No. 2 singles Liza Bartlett defeated Shelby Pierce, 6-3, 6-2 for the only singles win. Elena Weddle appeared to be cruising by easily winning the first set but the tables were turned in the final two sets and she lost to Abigail Hornbeck, 1-6, 6-2, 6-2 in the No. 3 singles position.

At the top spot, Kari Schulte got down early and tried to make a come back but couldn't pull it off as she was beaten by Taylor Shake 6-1, 7-5.

Bloomfield won both doubles matches by comfortable margins.

The No. 1 pair of Rachel Helms and Emily Walker downed Meredith Secrest and Shai Dean, 6-3, 6-2 while Emma Doris and Amanda picked up their third win in a row by defeating Mikayla Turner and Bridget Bailey, 6-3, 6-0

Bloomfield won the junior varsity match 6-0.

Bloomfield will stay on the road when they travel to Bedford North Lawrence for a 5:00 p.m. match.
