The Eastern Greene girls track and field team defeated host North Knox 91-40 in a dual meet at Bicknell Thursday.

"Today was a great day for us. I was really proud of the efforts of Sierra New and Scottie Ingram. Both athletes really stepped up to do big things for us today," said EGHS coach Ray Hausler. "Peyton Gilliatt had a huge throw in the shot put. We were excited to see her improve there.

"We continue to really come along as a team. The girls are understanding where they can help us by scoring points in various events."

The boys team also defeated North Knox 71-59 as Stephen French (11.46 seconds) and Miles Hutchison (11.47) were 1-2 in the 100.

Coach Matt Roberts said he was impressed with their performances.

He added that Dillon Resler continues to do his thing, winning the 1,600 and 3,200 relays.

French also won the pole vault at 11 feet even, edging out Resler.

Roberts said the 3,200 and 400 relay teams were first and that freshman Jeremy New continues to get better in the 800.

"Jeremy finished third, but has cut 45 seconds off of his time in the 800 since the beginning of the season."

The Thunderbirds will compete against Shakamak and host Owen Valley Monday.

We'll be short our softball players, but we are hoping to get out and compete well," said Hausler.
