* Trinity Lutheran Church, located at 1759 E. * The American Legion Heavy Weight Horse Pull will be at Hanna Field in Jasonville. Admission is free.

* The Walnut Grove Memorial Day Service will begin at 9 a.m. in the church with Sunday School. Preaching will be at 10 a.m., and the American Legion will be presenting colors in the cemetery at 11:30 a.m. There will be a pitch-in lunch in the Friendship Hall at noon, and service in the church at 1:30 p.m.

* The Solsberry American Legion Color Guard will pay tribute to departed veterans at Newark Cemetery at 12:30 p.m.; Ridgeport Cemetery at 1 p.m.; Sylvania Cemetery at 1:30 p.m.; Carmichael Cemetery at 2 p.m.; Solsberry Cemetery at 2:30 p.m.; Greene County Chapel at 3 p.m.; Liberty Cemetery Hendricksville at 3:30 p.m.; Solsberry Memorial Park at the fire station at 4 p.m.; and Bingham Cemetery at 4:20 p.m.

* The Bloomfield American Legion Color Guard will be making several stops on its Memorial Day tribute to departed veterans. The stops will be 9:15 a.m. at Tulip Cemetery; 10:40 a.m. at Scotland Cemetery; 11:30 a.m. at Walnut Grove Cemetery; and 1 p.m. at Grandview Cemetery.

* Linton Saddle Club will host a hog roast at 4 p.m. at the Saddle Club Campgrounds. Bring a covered dish and enjoy the hog roast with old and new friends alike.

* The annual Memorial Day service will begin at Marco Cemetery at noon. It will feature a Civil War canon, the flag folding ceremony, reading of veterans names, 21-gun salute, a guest speaker and Susan Romier will sing the National Anthem.

Monday, May 28

* Linton American Legion Post No. 22 will honor our deceased veterans at the German Cemetery at 10 a.m. and Fairview Cemetery at 11 a.m. Please join us in this very special ceremony.

* The Greene County Veterans Council will host a Memorial Day service at 3 p.m. on the courthouse lawn. Charles S. LaSota, U.S. Navy retired, will be the guest speaker.

* The new Lyons Municipal Water Filter is online. Hydrant flushing will begin today. Your continued patience is appreciated. Some discoloration of the water may continue through the week.

* The Greene County Republican Women's Club will meet at 6:30 p.m. at the Jaycee Building in Bloomfield, located on Lincoln Drive. Please bring a dish to share. All are welcome.

* The Linton Public Library's 2012 summer reading sign-up begins today. All ages are welcome to visit the library to sign up and to receive their reading card. Read to win prizes and raffle tickets for grand prizes. Please visit or call the library at 847-7802 for details.

* Switz City Town Council will conduct an executive session at 6 p.m. in the Switz City Town Hall.

* Worthington VFW Post No. 7117 will host a Memorial Day program at the Worthington Cemetery at 2:45 p.m. There will be a reading of the "Killed-in-action" list, followed by a dedication of the new flag pole and monument by the VFW post and auxiliaries in honor of all veterans of Worthington, Greene County and surrounding counties. Flags will be flown at half-staff until noon. After the program, hamburgers and hotdogs will be served at the post for those attending the program by the Men's Auxiliary. Everyone is welcome to attend.

Thursday, May 31

* Bloomfield School District Board of Trustees will meet in regular session in the junior high school conference room at 7 p.m.

* Eastern Green School Board of Education will have a work session to discuss Classified Handbook and NEOLA policies at 6 p.m. in the Eastern Greene Central Office Board Room.

* Greene County Memory Makers Quilt Guild will host its monthly meeting at 6 p.m. at the Busy Bees Quilt Shop in Linton. Helen England is in charge of the program. All quilters are welcome. Call Nancy Hudson at 384-6551 if you have any questions or need directions.

* Lyons Senior Center will be renting booth space in its parking lot during the town-wide yard sales from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Booth space is by donation only. If interested contact Kathy England at 384-7934.

* The Strawberry Festival will be at Lyons Park. Baby contest sign-up will begin at 11:30 a.m., with the contest taking place at noon. There will be a free throw contest and picnic table auction at 1:30 p.m.; live music at 1:45; a horse pull at 2 p.m.; and a raffle drawing for a $100 gift card at 3 p.m. There will also be a drive-in car show, flea market booths, inflatable bounce house with slide, ice cream and strawberry shortcake.

Monday, June 4

* The Greene County Hospital Auxiliary will meet at 1:30 p.m. in the conference room.

* The Linton Board of Works will meet in an executive session at 3:30 p.m. in the mayor's conference chambers to receive information pertaining to personnel. This meeting is not open to the public.

* Those who have decorations on graves at Fairview Cemetery will have until today to have them removed from the ground area. Pots or hanging baskets in the grass area will be removed by workers. Saddles or flower arrangements in special holders on the monument can stay and will not be disposed of.

Wednesday, June 6

* The Switz City Cemetery Association will conduct its annual meeting at 6 p.m. The meeting will be at the Switz City Fire Station, located at the corner of Charlotte Ave. and Second St. in Switz City. For more information call 659-2819 or 659-2077.

Thursday, June 7

* Master Gardeners will meet at 7 p.m. at the Greene County Extension Office.

* The Lyons Senior Center will host its monthly breakfast along with the Country Class Band from 5:30 to 8 p.m. The meal will include biscuits and gravy, sausage, eggs, pancakes, milk and coffee by donation only.

Friday, June 8

* The Worthington Merchants are sponsoring their annual Old Fashioned Days today and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Vendors are needed for food and flea market. Musicians are welcome to play. Booth space is $15 for both days. Call 875-3355 or 875-2030 for more information.

Saturday, June 9

* There will be a Sock Hop with 1950s and 1960s music by the Jeff Gentry Band at the Greene County Shrine Club at 8 p.m. with a $5 cover.

* The Linton-Stockton Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring the 13th Annual Freedom Festival Open Golf Tournament at the Phil Harris Golf Course in Linton. Shotgun start will be at 9 a.m. There will be a 27-hole flighted tournament, alternative shot format, nine holes to be a two-man scramble, two-man best ball and alternative shot. Cost is $45 for Phil Harris members and $60 for non-members. Call 847-4790 to reserve your space. Proceeds will benefit the Linton Freedom Festival.

* Greene County General Hospital will be hosting a blood drive from noon to 4 p.m. in the Conference Room on the ground level of the hospital. There are few causes for deferral, so most people are eligible to donate. Bring a photo ID. A cholesteral, blood pressure, blood type and iron check will be included in the donation, as well as cookies and juice.

Thursday, June 14

* Generations and the WILL Center will host a Low Vision Expo at the Greene Activities Center, located at 120 W. Harrison St. on Vincennes University Campus, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. There will be a free lunch, free vision screening and free resources for individuals and families dealing with macular degeneration, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, cataracts and all types of low vision. Reservations are necessary for the meal count. RSVP by calling Generations at 1-800-742-9002.

Saturday, June 16

* The Lyons Senior Center will host the Fourth Annual Gospel Jubilee from 4 to 9 p.m. at the Lyons Community Building. Performances will include the Gospel Gang, Haskett Sister Trio, Michael Brown, Eversole Ministries and the Wolfe Family. They will be accepting a free will offering, as well as food items and a silent auction. Gospel Jubilee is the Senior Center's main fundraiser.

* The Linton-Stockton Chamber of Commerce 5K Run/Fitness Walk will begin at 8 a.m. at the Linton-Stockton High School track. Registration starts at 7:30 a.m. Registration forms are online at www.lintonchamber.org . Entry fees are $16 for pre-registered participants (deadline June 13) and $19 on the day of the event. * Memorial Day decorations at Lebanon Cemetery must be removed by today. Items may remain on the stone, but decorations not removed from the grave itself and in the mowing path will be disposed of. * Vince Felton State Farm, 1220 NE A Street in Linton, will host a dedicated blood drive in honor of Vince "Chip" Felton, to raise awareness about Mesothelioma. The bloodmobile will be set up from 3 to 7 p.m. The donations will stay in the community, and you can sign up online at www.donorpoint.org or www.indianablood.org, or call the office at 847-2249 to be put on the schedule.

* The 35th Annual Presbyterian Tasting Luncheon will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Bloomfield Presbyterian Church, located at 401 Shyla Lane. Carry-out will be available and the church is handicap accessible. Advanced tickets may be purchased for $7 from any member or by calling the church office at 384-8428. Tickets purchased at the door will be $8. Brooms and cookbooks will be for sale.

* Linton-Stockton High School Class of 1982 will host its 30th class reunion at the Legion Park in Linton. Social time and meal (including tea and lemonade) begin at 6 p.m. with music later in the evening. Cost is $20 per person; each classmate may bring one guest. * The town of Newberry will be sprayed for misquitos beginning May 29, and every other week after during the summer, weather permitting.

* Mt. Moriah Cemetery, in Bucktown, is accepting any donations for the upkeep of the cemetery. Donations can be sent to Mt. Moriah Cemetery c/o Connie Carr, 14609 W. 50N, Linton, Ind. 47441. Make checks payable to Mt. Moriah Cemetery.

* The Summer Food Program will offer free hot lunches to anyone under the age of 18, May 29 to Aug. 9 -- excluding July 4 -- Monday through Friday, noon to 1 p.m. at the west shelterhouse in Linton's Humphreys Park, Lyons Community Building, Bloomfield First Christian Church, Worthington Community Building in the park, and the Lawton Street Christian Church in Jasonville. Some sites have activities planned after lunch.

* The Shakamak Jr./Sr. High School Choir Boosters are now selling their new discount cards for $5. There are several Jasonville and Linton businesses on each card. Contact Gail Rogers at the high school, choir students, Dawn Deschamp, Nancy Jones or Lori Ashcraft of the boosters if you are interested in purchasing a card.

* The Bloomfield American Legion Memorial Post No. 196 is hosting Bingo every Thursday night at 5 p.m., with winner take all.

* The 29th Annual American Red Cross Book Fair will be Sept. 27-Oct. 2 at the Monroe County Fairgrounds, Commercial Building West. There will be 100,000 gently used books, CDs, videos, DVDs, cassettes, records, games, puzzles, maps, sheet music, and many other items for sale at very reasonable prices. Opening day admission is $10, but the rest of the week's attendance is free. Please call (812) 332-7292 to receive a Book Fair bookmark with dates, times (vary from day to day) and specials listed. All proceeds from the Book Fair benefit Red Cross disaster relief, service to military families, and emergency preparedness services in Monroe and Owen Counties.

* Starting March 24, the city of Linton will be changing trash pick up on First Street NE to Tuesdays, rather than Thursdays.

* Taylor Township Board will host its regular meetings on the second Wednesday of each month at 6 p.m. at the Scotland Fire Station beginning in May.

* Union Church of Hendricksville on State Road 43 will not host its third Saturday monthly gospel sings this summer. The church hopes to start its sings again in the near future.

* The VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post 7118 of Linton will meet the first Monday of each month. The April meeting will be election of officers.

* Beginning, March 5, the Linton Public Library began offering downloadable e-book and audiobook services for its registered patrons. Please visit www.lintonpl.lib.in.us or the library for more information.

* Bloomfield-Eastern Greene County Public Library will be selling audio books on cassette for $.50 each. There are mysteries, romances, inspirational fiction, biographies and more. You will find the books upstairs in the main library, located at 125 S. Franklin Street in Bloomfield. Books may be opened any time the library is open. Operating hours are Monday-Thursday 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

* There is a new website open to the public, for your viewing. The site, greene.in.wthgis.com, has information on Greene County properties, including taxes owed and paid, assessed values, and the different number and types of deductions applied to the property itself, among others. Please log on and take a look.

* The Worthington Jefferson Township Public Library has a book sale going on. All books, VHS tapes and audio cassettes are $.10 each or 20 items for $1. Audio CDs are $1 each. Over 700 items have been added.

* Pastor Samuel Hill invites you to a gospel singing at Hobbieville Christian Church the second Saturday of each month at 6 p.m. Different groups will sing each week. There will be food served and a good time of fellowship.

* A steering committee has been meeting in an effort to form an Eastern Greene Alumni Association. There is now an alumni tab on the school's website, www.egreene.k12.in.us. * The Linton 12th Street Church of God will have Bible study every Thursday night in the Fellowship Hall at 7 p.m. with coffee and snacks, beginning Dec. 1.

* The Linton Public Library is operating daily book sales. Any time the library is open, patrons may browse the book sale aisle for books, VHS, books on cassette, audio books, and DVDs. The book sale aisle is now located at the front of the library. Please pay for purchases at the circulation desk.

* Bloomfield American Legion Post 196 bingo is every Thursday night. Doors open at 5:30 p.m., and early-bird games begin at 6 p.m., and regular games at 7 p.m.

* Pleasant Grove Church of Christ will host an event each Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. If you have been searching for answers concerning how to strengthen your family relationship, and discover your calling in life, then the church has something that will help. There will be a meal and then a DVD presentation. Other topics covered will be finances, health, handling conflict, overcoming anger, overcoming addictions, and many other critical topics that pertain to marriages and families. * The Hobbieville Christian Fellowship Church will host a gospel sing the second Saturday of each month at 6 p.m. There will be food served.

* The board of directors of the Peavey Cemetery is planning to replace the old flagpole and flag at the entrance. * Meals on Wheels is now available at the Lyons Senior Citizens Center starting at 11:30 a.m. Please call 847-3509 the day before you plan to attend. For those who are homebound and need meals delivered, call 2-1-1 or 1-800-742-9002.

* Books for Babies is a national literacy program that acquaints parents and newborns with the important role they play in the development of their children. Parents are presented with a Books for Babies kit containing a book, baby's first library card and brochures with reading tips for parents and caregivers. If you are a new mother and a resident of Greene County in one of the following townships -- Richland, Highland, Taylor, Beech Creek, Center or Jackson -- you are eligible for a free gift for you and your baby. Please bring your baby in "to show him/her off" to the circulation desk in the Bloomfield-Eastern Greene County Public Library, 125 Franklin St. in Bloomfield to receive your free gift.

* Bingo at the American Legion in Worthington is on Fridays. Doors open at 4:30 p.m. with games at 6:15 p.m. This is open to the public. Cost is $30 for 15 games All proceeds go to the Worthington American Legion. This event is non-smoking with breaks made for smokers to go outdoors.

* A 12-Step Overcomers Recovery Support Meeting is held every Wednesday at the Family Life Center on the East side of the square in Bloomfield from 7:30 p.m.-8:30 p.m. Come and join us to overcome life-controlling problems of all sorts with Bible principles, prayer, memory verses and weekly support. * The Clay County WIC program is in Jasonville at the Senior Center on the second Wednesday of each month from 9 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.

* The Lyons Community Food Pantry at 150 East Broad Street (the old fire station) will be open from 4-6 p.m. the third Monday of every month, and the first Saturday of the month from 10 a.m. to noon. The pantry serves zip codes 47443, 47449, and 47465.

* The newly appointed Worthington Park Board will host meetings at 6 p.m. on each first Wednesday of the month at the Worthington Municipal Building in downtown Worthington. The public is welcome to attend.

* Mineral United Methodist Church will have Bible study from 7 - 8 p.m. on the second, third and fourth Wednesdays of the month.

* Faith Community Church cookbooks are available for $10 and can be purchased at Richard Brown Insurance or call 847-4798.

* The mobile food pantry will be at the Jasonville United Methodist Church from 10 a.m. to ? on the first Wednesday of the month.

* The Back Door Food Pantry is open from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. on the third Saturday of the month.

* Narcotics Anonymous will meet Saturdays at 7 p.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church on State Road 54 East. There will be open discussion and all are welcome.

* Lebanon Baptist Food Pantry will only be open on the fourth Thursday of each month from 6-7:30 p.m.

* The Refuge Assembly of God food pantry will be open every Wednesday from 1-5 p.m. to assist those living in Bloomfield. To donate, please contact Trina at 384-8093 during the pantry's open hours.

* The Mineral Christian Men's Group meets at 8 a.m. every third Saturday of the month at the Mineral Community Building.

* House of Grace Coffee House will offer fellowship, food, worship and youth classes. The church is located at 792 S. Section St. in Dugger.

* The Pleasantville United Methodist Church food pantry is now open on the second and fourth Saturdays of the month from 10:30 a.m. - noon.

* The Lyons First Christian Church youth group meets at 6 p.m. on Mondays at the church's East Broad Street location.
