* Linton-Stockton School Corporation will meet at the Greene County Courthouse Magistrates Court Room in Bloomfield at 10:30 a.m. to determine wage rates to establish wages for public works construction projects.
* The Country Travellers Band will be at the Lyons Senior Center from 5 to 8 p.m. Dinner will be by donation.
* The Linton Public Library will show the movie Lincoln. The PG13 movie will begin at 5 p.m. and is 150 minutes long. Free refreshments will be served. This is a free program open to the public, and you do not need a library card to attend. Anyone under the age of 13 must be accompanied by an adult.
Wednesday, April 17
* Grave sites at Pleasant Grove Cemetery, located south of Linton and west of Lyons, should be cleared for the mowing season. Floral and decorative items that impede mowing should be removed by today.
Thursday, April 18
* The Sandborn Park Board will have a dinner from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Community Center. The menu will include BBQ Pork on a bun, potato salad, baked beans, cole slaw, drinks and desserts.
* The White River Valley School Board of Trustees will meet in executive session at 4:30 p.m., followed by the regular board meeting at 7 p.m.
* The Linton Public Library Board of Trustees will meet at 6 p.m. in the library.
* The MSD of Shakamak Board of School Trustees will be holding its regularly scheduled meeting at 7 p.m. in the Shakamak Junior-Senior High School Media Center.
* The Bloomfield-Eastern Greene County Public Library's Owensburg branch faces several challenges. To discuss the situation further, the Library Director and Board of Trustees will be available for a public forum to discuss the future of the library and the Owensburg branch. * Peavey Cemetery lot owners and caretakers: It is requested you have any remaining decorations removed by today for the spring clean-up. Any remaining decorations will be discarded.

* Local author Christina Hollensbe will be at the Spark Gift Shop at the Carnegie Heritage and Arts Center from 1 to 3 p.m.

* The Worthington Garden Club Plant Auction will begin at 10 a.m. at the Worthington Park Community Building. Doors will open at 9:30 a.m. Proceeds will go towards the Worthington Garden Park.
* Union Church will host a Gospel sing the third Saturday of each month this year starting April 20. The starting time is different starting with the first sing. The Evening Light Gospel Singers (Lowell and Brenda Flynn) will be the featured singers along with the locals. * The annual Wabash Valley Affiliate of Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Celebration will be at Idle Creek Banquet Center from 2 to 4 p.m. This year's theme is Tea and Talk. Dr. Theresa Guise, a Komen Scholar at Indiana University School of Medicine, will speak on the newest advances in research and treatments in breast cancer. The Affiliate will also be announcing the 2013 Grantees. The event is free to breast cancer survivors and $5 for guest. * The Bykota Sample Fair will be at the Dugger Community Building from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and admission for the public will be $1.25. Coordinators are now reserving space for vendors. Vendors will give out something at their booth to the public. All booth space is first come, first serve. Sunday, April 21
* The Greene County Historical Society will welcome Tony Neff, Owen County Historian, as the featured speaker on April 21, Bloomfield Public Library, at 2 p.m. Professor Neff will give a presentation about the history of the "Great Flood of 1913" and how it affected the people, businesses, and railroads along the White River. The most widespread and devastating flood in Indiana began on Easter Sunday 1913 and by Wednesday, March 26, the White River in Spencer crested at an all time high. He will compare the Great Flood of 1913 to other record floods including the floods of 1875 and 2008 that devastated Greene County. Everyone is welcome to attend.

* There will be a meeting concerning the upkeep of the Burris Chapel Cemetery at 6:30 p.m. at the Rodney Walker residence. All inerested in the upkeep of the cemetery are encouraged to attend.

* The Lyons Town Council will meet in executive session at 5:30 p.m. in the Lyons Community Building.
Thursday, April 25
* A Greene County Tourism Meeting will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Greene County Fairgrounds. The Greene County Tourism Advisory Board (GCTAB) encourages anyone interested in promoting Greene County Tourism to attend. * The Bloomfield Lions Club will be selling roses and carnations for delivery on Thursday/Friday May 9/10 in time for Mother's Day. The cost is $16 per dozen for roses and $10 per dozen for carnations. Colors are red, yellow and pink. Call Jeff Schafer at (812) 650-0277 to place an order by April 25. Free delivery within Greene County or you may pick them up in Bloomfield. Funds raised will be used to support annual scholarships, school dictionary projects, and vision screening.
Friday, April 26
* Linton Freedom Festival Fish Fry will take place at the Roy Clark Building from 4-8 p.m. Tickets are $7 tickets in advance, $8 at the door, and $4 for children 10 and under in advance and $5 at the door. You can dine in or carry out.
Saturday, April 27
* Sandborn Fire and Rescue will have their annual pancake and sausage day at the fire station from 7 a.m. to noon. The cost is $5 for adults, $3 for children ages 5 to 12 and free to children under 5. All proceeds go towards the purchase of new fire station equipment.
* The American Legion Auxiliary in Lyons will be hosting the monthly breakast from 7 to 11 a.m. The menu will include biscuits and gravy, eggs your way, fried potatoes and sausage or bacon.
* The Daniel Guthrie Chapter, Indiana Sons of the American Revolution (INSSAR), the John Wallace Chapter, Indiana Daughters of the American Revolution (INSDAR), and the Bloomfield American Legion Post #196 will be conducting a Patriot Memorial ceremony for Revolutionary War Patriot Pvt. John P. Phillips at the Killinger (Phillips) Farm cemetery at 2 pm. The cemetery is located approx 2 1/2 miles north of Bloomfield on N. 157 and the Phillips headstone can be seen on the east side of the highway. This event is open to the public. * Learn how to make a book/beach/carry-all bag from a T-shirt at the Linton Public Library. This is a free program but to participate you MUST bring an X-large T-shirt! The program runs from noon to 1 p.m. Refreshments will be served. You do not have to be a library member to join this class.
* The Liberty Church of Christ, located at 12884 E McVille Road in Solsberry, will host the Spring Clothing Giveaway from 8 a.m. to noon. Everything is free and everyone is welcome. There will be clothes, coats, shoes, toys, linens and household items. A free breakfast and lunch will be served.
Thursday, May 2
* The Lyons Senior Center will be hosting the Country Travellers Band from 5 to 8 p.m. Dinner will be available by donation.
* Farmers and Mechanics Federal's Relay for Life Team will host a Shred and Recycle fundraising event from 4 to 6 p.m. in the business' parking lot. Bring your shreddable materials and your obsolete electronics and small appliances to the Bloomfield office. Your shreddable items will be properly disposed of while you watch by Shredding Unlimited of Bloomington. Green Geek Recycling of Linton will also be available to dispose of any obsolete electronics, computers and small appliances. Proceeds go towards the Greene County Relay for Life. Donations will be accepted.
Saturday, May 4
* Bloomfield Town Wide Yard Sales will be today, sponsored by the Bloomfield Chamber of Commerce and the Greene County Daily World. There will be maps available at the Chamber's booth starting at 7 a.m. located on the south side of the square. * There will be a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) training program at Clay City High School on June 4. Orientation for the training will be today from 6 to 9 p.m. This will be for a daytime class.

* The Lyons Senior Center will have their monthly breakfast from 7 to 10 a.m. There will be a Mother's Day bake sale and door prizes.
Monday, May 13
* The Lyons Senior Center will be hosting a euchre tournament starting at 9 a.m. There will be ten games. Anyone interested can call 384-7934. There will also be a nurse at the center doing a wellness check.

* The Bloomfield-Eastern Greene County Public Library provides free delivery of materials to any homebound patron living within the service district. Residents of Richland, Beech Creek, Highland, Center, Taylor, and Jackson Townships are all eligible for the service. Permanent or temporary homebound patrons are encouraged to contact the library at 384-4125 to begin delivery service.

* Child Passenger Safety Technicians at the Greene County Sheriff's Department's Permanent Fitting Station, certified through the Automotive Safety Program at Riley Hospital for Children at the IU School of Medicine, are available to inspect safety seats and offer hands-on instruction on how to properly install your seat in your vehicle. They can make sure you have the car seat that fits your child best and that is properly secured in your vehicle. They may also be able to provide a car seat to families in need who meet income guidelines and in emergency circumstances when a child needs a seat immediately as a result of a fire or vehicle crash. * The Linton Library is offering A Photography Club and a Creative Writing Club for teens. They meet on the second Monday of each month. The Photography Club meets 4:30-5:15 p.m. The Creative Writing Club meets 5:15-6:00 p.m. A person can join at anytime.

Prairie Chapel United Methodist Church will begin a 31-week series on the first Sunday in January (6th) that will help you to read through the Bible chronologically and then study what we've read during weekly worship and Sunday school times. * Books for Babies is a national literacy program that acquaints parents and newborns with the important role they play in the development of their children. Parents are presented with a Books for Babies kit containing a book, baby's first library card and brochures with reading tips for parents and caregivers. If you are a new mother and a resident of Greene County in one of the following townships -- Richland, Highland, Taylor, Beech Creek, Center or Jackson -- you are eligible for a free gift for you and your baby. Please bring your baby in "to show him/her off" to the circulation desk in the Bloomfield-Eastern Greene County Public Library, 125 Franklin St. in Bloomfield to receive your free gift.
* Bingo at the American Legion in Worthington is on Fridays. Doors open at 4:30 p.m. with games at 6:15 p.m. This is open to the public. Cost is $30 for 15 games All proceeds go to the Worthington American Legion. This event is non-smoking with breaks made for smokers to go outdoors.
* A 12-Step Overcomers Recovery Support meeting is every Wednesday at the Family Life Center on the east side of the square in Bloomfield from 7:30-8:30 p.m. Come and join us to overcome life-controlling problems of all sorts with Bible principles, prayer, memory verses and weekly support. * The Lyons Community Food Pantry at 150 East Broad Street (the old fire station) will be open from 4-6 p.m. the third Monday of every month, and the first Saturday of the month from 10 a.m. to noon. The pantry serves zip codes 47443, 47449, and 47465.
* The Worthington Park Board will host meetings at 6 p.m. on each first Wednesday of the month at the Worthington Municipal Building in downtown Worthington. The public is welcome to attend.
