Miners edge Rivet
Chad Trent doubled in the bottom of the sixth inning and scored when Vincennes Rivet misplayed a sacrifice by Joel Travis as Linton-Stockton defeated the Patriots 3-2 in a high school baseball game at Roy Herndon Field Monday night.
Drew Witty tossed a six-hitter to earn his first victory (1-1). He allowed two unearned runs.
"Drew pitched a great game," said Miner coach Matt Fougerousse. "It could have easily been a shutout.
"He actually made all three putouts in the seventh inning after they put two runners on."
Fougerousse said that Travis ended up with three perfect bunts -- one for a hit and two sacrifices.
Abe Neff had two hits, Aspen Taylor had a base hit and drove in a run, Bryant Jackson picked up an RBI on a sacrifice fly and Trent Vowell went 2-for-3.
The Miners, who will play at Washington Tuesday, improved to 4-2.
