Thunderbirds dominate Clay City
The Eastern Greene Thunderbirds got a complete game from Carter Divine as they pounded out nine hits on their way to a 12-2 win over visiting Clay City Monday night at Little Cincinnati.
The Thunderbirds are now 4-2 overall and 1-1 in Southwestern Indiana Athletic Conference play.
Devon Buchtman provided the only extra base hit of the game with a double, otherwise it was a string of singles that led to the Eastern Greene success.
Buchtman added a single while Nathan Sparks singled twice. C.J. Shelton and Logan Frye singled once apiece while Jake Johnson added two more singles.
"It was a good win for us," Eastern Greene coach Trevor McConnell said. "I don't think the score was indicative of the game.
"Clay City is good team but they're very young. They had trouble getting out of the first inning with their pitching."
The Eels sent three pitchers to the mound -- who combined to give up eight runs -- in the first inning before finally retiring the T-Birds.
Eastern Greene returns to action Wednesday when they host Sullivan in a 5 p.m. contest at Little Cincinnati.
