Katelyn Wolfe

The Linton Police Department is seeking help from the public in locating a missing 19-year-old girl.

Katelyn Wolfe was reported missing by her father. She was last seen or communicated with about 3 a.m. Thursday in the area of C Street NW in Linton, according to Linton Police Chief Troy Jerrell.

"She was on her phone talking to someone. She was just looking for some people to hang out with," Jerrell said.

Wolfe is a white female, who is 5-2 in height and weighs about 110 pounds. She has black hair and blue eyes and is possibly wearing glasses.

Wolfe is believed to be wearing a black and white striped shirt and blue jeans. She wears a nose ring in the middle of the nose, the police chief said.

Chief Jerrell said when her father reported her missing there were no indications of a problem or anything that would prompt her to leave.

"There were no arguments or fights or anything like that," Jerrell told the Greene County Daily World.

Anyone with any information regarding Wolfe's whereabouts is asked to contact the Linton Police Department by calling 812-847-4411 or contacting family members at 812-798-4079 or 812-512-2314.

  • Why are they not forming a community search effort ASAP??? I for one would help with the search. I say ask ALL of the people in Greene county to do a land sweep of their own property and if they are disabled and/or elderly and cannot do the sweep, contact the police department so that someone can do it for them. I know if this was my daughter I would appreciate it very much. Get the people on 4 Wheelers and golf carts, bicycles, horses, scooters, riding mowers ANYTHING to help all you can in ANY way. I don't know how to get these things together but I would think the faster it gets put together would be for the best. I pray for her safe return and for her family.

  • Did I read that correctly, last communication with her was at 3am, if that is correct, I wonder what she was doing out at that hour in the morning.

I hope she is ok but still not a great hour for a 19 yr old to be out looking for people to hang out with, strange.

  • She posted on facebook that someone was following here and she disappeared shortly after. She is at great risk.

  • lilpendragon, I've seen no such post on her Facebook.

  • The Terre Haute paper noted that she had posted on FaceBook about someone following her. The parents were able to pull up her phone calls and texts and there have been none since shortly after 2 am when she left. She did not take clothing or makeup or anything like that so they are sure she did not go to someone's home to spend the night. There are a lot of unsavory people who roam around downtown when the bars close. Maybe a closer look at them is called for.... I sure hope she is ok...

  • Okay, thank you for clarifying. The post must have been removed by someone then as it is not there now.

  • I heard she was a student at Ivy Tech - I would find out if she had friends in the TH area. I'm guessing that since there's nothing to do in Linton, she was on her way to Terre Haute to see if there was anything interesting going on there. Since no friends told police that she was supposed to meet up with them, maybe she just headed up that way cause she was bored & it was a nice warm summer night (my daughter and her boyfriend go to IHOP at 1am if they're bored & hungry). The paper/news mentioned she thought someone was following her: Maybe someone spooked her and she went off the road and the idiot following her thought they would get in trouble so they just drove off (?). I've seen those shows where someone swerves to avoid hitting a deer or slides off the road and goes into a ditch and nobody can see the car from the road. And alot of areas down here in Greene/Sullivan County have NO cell service (dead zones), so that might explain 0 calls/texts from her phone after 3am. Have they been checking along highways between Linton & TH??? (US 41, SR48, SR54 - whatever route she'd take). The grass is really tall right now, and if it was the middle of the night, it's a possibility! :/

  • This is katelyn's stepmother. The post about people driving by her while she was walking is still posted on her facebook. I looked just now. She has no friends in Terre Haute because when she went to Ivy Tech i was the one who drove her everyday. She was last seen in the neighborhood around our house. Someone came and picked her up and no one has heard from her since. Gossip mongers need to get it straight

  • The exact quote from her FB that I am looking at right now is "Trying to party looking for fun. Out on a walk with creeps that keep driving by"

    -- Posted by AwesomeOne85 on Sat, Jun 8, 2013, at 4:13 PM
  • The police have verified she posted "I think a car is following me" on her facebook. She was listed as "At Risk" well before she was missing 24 hours. The NIXLE report lists the Severity risk as

"Severe - Significant threat to life or property".

  • It may be a matter of privacy settings. Anyway I have been a family friend for a very longtime and am doing everything possible to help. I have contacted people across the United States spreading the word. I pray she is soon found safe.

-- Posted by dorindaJ on Sun, Jun 9, 2013, at 1:15 AM
  • You're right, DorindaJ, it very well may be a privacy setting. If you aren't a friend of Katelyn's on facebook, its possible you would only see a few sporadic posts. It could be possible the comment has been deleted for purposes of the investigation.

Facts are important in instances like this. Asking questions to keep things correct is not out of line. I don't think the "gossip monger" comment was directed at you. The family is more hurt by comments like "why was she outdoors at 3 am?"...Why that matters at all is beyond me. Senseless implications are of no help what-so-ever.

My heart goes out to her family and friends. I can't begin to imagine what they are going through. I woke up a few minutes ago thinking about her. I doubt her close family members and friends are getting much sleep at all.

Please print the flyer and take it to your place of employment....take one everywhere you go the next few weeks.

When search parties are organized, get involved. Someone knows something. Our community needs to work together to find this young woman. And to eliminate a potential predator in our quaint little town.

  • Has anyone heard more about search parties? I wish the paper would update, even if it's to say there is no new news. The community is concerned one of our own is missing!

  • Blueyedame, your comment directly refers to mine when I didn't understand her being out at 3am in which you said, "Facts are important in instances like this. Asking questions to keep things correct is not out of line. I don't think the "gossip monger" comment was directed at you. The family is more hurt by comments like "why was she outdoors at 3 am?"...Why that matters at all is beyond me. Senseless implications are of no help what-so-ever."

I didn't mean to add hurt to this family by asking that ? To me it was a legit ?, am sorry this girl is missing and praying for her family and my ? didn't seem senseless at the time in the context I meant it, being out that late does up the risk of getting into some kind of trouble or hurt, it is just a fact, it just adds more risk to such things happening just as hitch hiking would or going out to party with people you do not know very well, etc. that was all I meant. Teach our children to use wisdom and stay as safe as possible to me isn't senseless, maybe I should have said nothing in this comment section about that because she is missing and needs to be found and why she was out doesn't matter now, finding her safely is what matters so guess I've learned a lesson on using tact in what I say or when I say it.Thank you for pointing that out, I'll try to be more careful from now on.

I'm am glad there are such people as yourself who step up to the forefront when things such as these happen, thank you...btw, I am not a gossip monger by no means, just asked a ? at the wrong time I suppose.

I pray she is found well and safe and pray for her family too.

  • Sassy12, there was a comment much "meaner" that mercifully has been deleted by the GCDW.

However, my comment was meant to point out that stating the obvious isn't at all helpful, only hurtful. This family needs all the help and support we can give them.

Please join us in the search for Katelyn today, 4pm at McBrides Welding, 924 8th St in Linton.
