Community can be proud of local military

"We the people" can usually be very proud of our citizens who serve our country in the military, in local, state and federal governments.

The taxes about which we complain pay for all those services and the money is usually spent wisely. There are times we read in the paper about an individual who has embezzled our funds, corporations with government contracts who overcharge and, of course, the amount of Medicare and welfare fraud that is not uncovered as frequently as we would like.

We are also seeing individual narcissism that truly affects our county and the pride we have in it. Unfortunately, many more members of Congress seem more interested in stating viewpoints likely to get them reelected than to do what might be best for the country, i.e. updating the tax code.

I have not heard one individual, personal, local or politician that does not agree it needs to be reviewed but we know it won't happen. Also sad, is the belief that one individual is so righteous they knowingly hurt the country for their own pride. Too much in the news lately are the names of Bradley Manning (who now expects our tax dollars to pay for his sexual realignment), Maj. Nidal Hason who wants to become a martyr and Edward Snowden whose righteousness brought him the attention he seemed to desire.

I was so proud to see another honorable serviceman, Ty Carter, receive the Congressional Medal of Honor and felt the joy of being an American. Is this a great country or what?
