Letter to the Editor

Ordinary citizens can make an extraordinary difference

Friday, February 14, 2014

George Washington was a farmer, surveyor, and soldier. John Adams, a lawyer. Thomas Jefferson was a farmer and a lawyer; James Madison, the same. Benjamin Franklin was a businessman and inventor.

My point, you ask? My point is that these men were ordinary citizens with ordinary occupations who were willing to make an extraordinary difference. Washington, Adams, Jefferson, Madison, Franklin and countless others were not content to sit idly by when there was a cause worth fighting for. They were willing to stand, fight and make a difference for the future of America and I'm thankful they did!

I visited our statehouse this week as HJR 3 (Traditional Marriage Amendment) was in committee. I saw a host of pro-homosexual marriage activists rallying in opposition to the amendment. A majority of Hoosiers are fundamentally opposed to homosexual marriage; yet, where were they? Probably busy about their farm, office, factory or business. Our forefathers were all ordinary men with ordinary occupations, yet they made an extraordinary difference.

Edmund Burke said, "All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing." I implore the good men and women of our state; do not sit idly by when there is a cause worth fighting for! Now is the time to do something! Contact your Representative and Senator and let them know you support HJR 3 (as written)! Stand, fight and make a difference for the future of Indiana... Future generations of Hoosiers will be thankful you did!
