LINTON -- The first of the three "You'll Like Linton" signs (the one that formerly resided on the west side of Linton) will be sold during a silent auction, which is underway from now until midnight on July 18.

The sign is currently housed on a trailer at the parking lot west of Jiffy Treat in Linton. Forms for the auction are available on the trailer.

The You'll Like Linton Sign Committee is sponsoring the auction, and all of the proceeds will be put towards the final third sign, soon to be located on the south side of Linton.

Janette Evans of the You'll Like Linton Sign Committee said they are close to achieving their goal for raising the money for the third sign.

"We still need $5,000 to finish this project. So what we are planning on doing is auctioning the signs one at time. The first auction will take place during the Freedom Festival and the following auction will likely take place a month later," Evans said.

The rules for silent auction are: Bids shall be signed by the bidder and will be considered a legal contract; you may bid as often as you like; minimum bid increment is $20; the current high bid will be posted at Shields Hardware & Supply, and also on Shields Hardware & Supply Facebook page; bids open on June 15 and close at midnight July 18; in case of a tie, the top bidders will be notified for a bidding war; the winning bidder will be notified by phone or email; the successful bidder will have 48 hours to arrange for payment and delivery (can be delivered within 15 miles, but the winning bidder is required to remove the sign off the trailer); the bids are for the sign only, no posts; and the sign is sold in "as is" condition.

The starting bid for the sign is $500. After filling out the bid form, you can either mail or return the form to Shields Hardware & Supply 981 A Street NW, Linton, IN 47441.

Two of the new "You'll Like Linton" signs are already erected on the east and west sides of Linton. The east side sign has been finished with masonry work around the base of the sign, and planters have also been installed. Planters still need to be installed on the west side sign.

According to Evans, the signs will have power sometime later this month.

  • Was there a "You'll Like Linton" sign at the entrance to the old Conservation Club?
