UPDATING: State Road 54 west of Bloomfield shut down; Firefighters on scene of fire at Bloomfield Locker Plant

Early Thursday evening, firefighters from Switz City, Bloomfield, Worthington and other departments were on the scene battling a serious fire at the Bloomfield Locker Plant located off State Road 54 west of Bloomfield, on the west side of the Memorial Bridge over White River. The highway was shut down and was expected to remain closed for some time - drivers should find an alternate route.

7:05 p.m. Firefighters on the scene have been requesting assistance. In addition to Switz City, Bloomfield, Worthington, and Richland, fire trucks and personnel are enroute from Center Township Fire Department, Lyons Fire Department, Linton Fire Department and possibly others. Fire has broken through the roof.

The highway will be closed for a long time - possibly hours. Travelers should find another route.
