Update on Eastern Heights Utility boil order

Friday, August 7, 2015

Thursday afternoon, Eastern Heights Utilities issued a press release announcing a boil order for all Eastern Heights Utility customers.

The order, which was signed by Eastern Heights Utilities General Manager Kenneth McIntosh, stated the following:

"Eastern Heights Utilities, Inc., has issued a boil order for our customers due to a positive total coliform test on our routine sampling. We are in the process of retesting in order to resolve this issue as soon as possible. We will notify our customers when this order is lifted. If you need additional information, please call our office at 812-384-8261 or check our website at www.ehuwater.com."

Friday afternoon another press release was issued by Eastern Heights Utilities with an update to the issue.

The advisory said, "In consultation with the Indiana Department of Environmental Management, it has been determined that the water customers should boil their drinking water. This precautionary measure is recommended because we are experiencing a drinking water problem within your service area. We collected two distribution samples for coliform bacteria on August 5, 2015, which were positive for E. coli. The standard is no more than one sample may be positive."

Eastern Heights Utilities recommended that all cooking and drinking water be brought to a complete boil for at least five minutes prior to use until further notice.

Until the issue is resolved, they also ask that water be conserved. Please only use what is necessary for your household and personal needs.

Anyone with any questions or concerns should contact the water department at (812) 384-8261.
