Firefighters from the Worthington Fire Territory, assisted by the Fairplay Grant/Switz City Fire Department, were on the scene of a house fire on South Jefferson Street in Worthington late Wednesday night.

They were dispatched around 11 p.m. Shortly after, a large blaze had erupted from the rear portion of the home and lit up the neighborhood.

Before 11:30 p.m., fire personnel had the large blaze knocked down but smoke was still pouring out and their job was far from over.

Neighbors said they believed the home was a rental house and they believed it was unoccupied at this time. However, that information could not be confirmed with officials on the scene.

More photos will be posted.
