Former Bloomfield man voted into Horseshoe Hall of Fame

Former Bloomfield resident, Donald Parkes (pictured), has been voted into the Virginia Horseshoe Hall of Fame.

Former Bloomfield resident, Donald Parkes, now of Front Royal, Virginia has recently been voted into the Virginia Horseshoe Hall of Fame. Don graduated from Bloomfield High School with the Class of 1948 and is the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Bert Parkes.

Don started pitching sanctioned tournaments at age 60, and over a period of the last 25 years has won 80 trophies and plaques. He has pitched in 19 World Horseshoe Tournaments in the United States and Canada. Don, a versatile athlete, has gold medals not only in horseshoe competition, but also table tennis, basketball shooting, and golf in Virginia State Senior games. He has competed in six national senior games whee he played horseshoes and table tennis. At age 86, he still competes at the Winchester Virginia Horseshoe Club, and has one tournament win in 2016.
