Thursday, January 19, 2017

Landon Gilmore, a fifth grader at Bloomfield Elementary School said he started a toy drive in October for children admitted to the Emergency Room at the Greene County General Hospital (GCGH). He dropped the toys off on Thursday evening and posed for a photo with Greene County Foundation Director, Kyle Cross (far left), and staff members of the Emergency Room. Gilmore, known as ‘Happy Gilmore,’ said he wanted to do a toy drive for local children after his school did a toy drive for Riley Children’s Hospital. His mother, Kim Ellett said he plays golf on the school’s team and plays in junior tournaments, earning himself an article in Golf Week magazine which she said is scheduled to be published this week. Ellett said he plans to do the toy drive next year, and has already started a drive for blankets to fill Sweet Dreams Baby Bundles for the GCGH. Ellett said he has a goal of collecting 50 blankets by February. Ellett said Gilmore participates in different community service programs, utilizing his Facebook page, ‘Team Happy Gilmore’ to organize donations. Donations can also be dropped off at the office of the Bloomfield Elementary School, Ellet said. Blankets can be homemade or store bought, and should be in neutral colors such as green or yellow, though all colors of blanket donations will be accepted.
