Section of SR 54 to close for water leak repair Dec. 11

Tuesday, November 28, 2017

On Monday, Nov. 7, INDOT Southwest posted to Facebook that the City of Linton would be closing State Road 54 beginning Dec. 11, and lasting around five days to repair a water leak in front of the Dirtbuster Car Wash. The city is working with INDOT to finalize a detour for truck traffic, at which point it will be released to the public. In the meantime, local traffic can simply use residential streets.

"The Water Department will be working on Monday to prepare the work site for shut-off valve installation by an outside contractor," writes Brent Slover, General Manager of Utilities. "On Tuesday, December 12th the valve will be installed in order to shut off water to the problem area. Once the valve is installed, our Water Department will begin working to fix the leak."

Slover explained that during the work day, water customers will experience low-to-no water pressure--and due to the unpredictable nature of the work, if the water department must work into the evening, low-to-no water pressure will continue to affect customers in the evenings as well. While the city cannot anticipate all potential issues, it is doing what it can to prepare citizens for the last-resort project. The city worked on the same water leak on Nov. 8.

"We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience as we work to fix this leak on the highway," said Slover. "Closing the highway was our last resort, but the closure is necessary in order to properly fix the issue."
