JoAnna Pfaff
JoAnna Pfaff, left on Nov. 24, 2017 at 11:45 p.m. in her traditional style-her way, her terms at Brooke Knoll Village in Avon.
She went quickly and peacefully, while looking through precious mementos and photo albums. Her long battle with COPD had come to its end, despite her long, courageous fight.
She was born on Sunday, January 16, 1938 in Sparta, Tenn., to the late Paul E. and Amy J. (Ashburn) Hickey.
JoAnna was a beautician and owner of Hair Society in Martinsville from 1987 to 1992. Above all, mom loved The Lord. Her faith never wavered, not once, not even in her hardest moments. She was a life-long devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Her talents and influences can be seen throughout all of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She was generous, caring, a hard worker, honor roll student and once won a sewing contest in eighth grade for best dress. Always a love for her family and others, she was accepting of all, young or old. She loved talking and listening to others, she made you feel special. Always open and honest. Sometimes feisty, and courageous, always speaking her mind and standing up for wrong doings. A great love for beauty and art. She was creative, crafty, forever making do with what she had and turning it into something lovely.
Her artist qualities showed in all she did; her work as a hairdresser, home, paintings, and her own personal style-recently nicknamed “Hollywood” for her great vivid style, outgoing personality, jewelry and light blue tinted sunglasses.
She will greatly be missed, but her best work is yet to come.
Survivors are her children, James LaFever of Baxter, Tenn., Rodney LaFever and wife Tina of Worthington, Dennis LaFever and wife Kim of Worthington and Tisha Owens and husband Tim of Avon; siblings, Alva Dee Hickey, Delmer Lee Hickey, Albert Paul Hickey and Mary Ellen Feeback; seven grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Dallis Ann Pfaff; her parents; and a sister, Sarah K. DeWeese.
Funeral services are 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 30 at Costin Funeral Chapel with JoAnna’s grandsons, James LaFever and Cody LaFever officiating.
Visitation will be at the chapel on Wednesday from 5 p.m. until 8p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Thursday. Burial will be at New South Park Cemetery in Martinsville.
