Letter to the Editor: Hooray for public schools

The Greene County Board of Commissioners designated Jan 21-27 as Greene County School Choice Week stating in their proclamation, “This is declaring that the county acknowledges the importance of education.” I applaud the sentiment.

Let’s celebrate Eastern Greene, Bloomfield, Linton, Shakamak and WRV! These are the fabulous local Greene County public schools that we love.

Public education is for all children and an educated citizenry is the backbone of our democracy. Not so much in Greene County, but in Indiana and the rest of the U.S., the bandwagon for school choice is a vehicle to divert taxpayer dollars (your money) to private businesses (non-public schools). Let’s support and fully fund our public schools.
