ROUNDUP: Shakamak beats Cougars, WRV boys elementary win four
Shakamak ventured to the den of the North Daviess Cougars Tuesday night and returned with a 41-34 victory.
The game proved to be a close one as North Daviess (9-12, 2-4 in the Southwest Indiana Athletic Conference) led 9-8 after one quarter, but the Lakers (8-12, 3-3) rallied to take an 18-17 halftime lead. They expanded the margin to 29-24 after three periods and outscored the Cougars 12-10 in the final frame.
Devin Stienstra led the Lakers with 12 points and Lane Gilbert scored 11.
The Lakers will host Eastern at 6:00 p.m. Friday.

WRV elementary boys teams win four of six
White River Valley’s fifth- and sixth-grade teams recently won four of six games.
On Tuesday night, the WRV fifth-graders pulled out a 31-26 win over Shakamak at Lyons.
Scorers for WRV were: A.J. Mareno, 13; Colton Sullivan, six; Jake Antibus, four; Eli Noel and Logan Sargent, three each; and Lelan Grissom, two.
The sixth-graders enjoyed an even more narrow win, prevailing by a 45-41 margin.
Max Hostetter led Shakamak with 23 points, followed by Briar English, nine; Caleb Bixler, six; Dalton Fulford, four; and Kobe Moorehouse, three.
North Knox came to Lyons on Feb. 6 and crushed the fifth-graders 42-15.
Scorers for WRV were: Jake Antibus, six; Colton Sullivan, five; and Lelan Grissom and Gavin Gilstrap, two each.
However, the sixth-graders trounced North Knox 40-25.
The sixth-graders were paced by Max Hostetter, 15, followed by Dylan Moody, nine; Trenton Fox, eight; Briar English, four, and Kobe Moorehouse and Dalton Fulford, two apiece.
On Feb. 5, the Wolverine fifth graders crushed Shakamak 46-14 at Jasonville.
Jake Antibus led WRV with 17 points, followed by A.J. Mareno, 11; Gavin Gilstrap, six; Logan Sargent, five; Lelan Grissom, three; and Eli Noel and Colton Sullivan, two apiece.
The sixth graders fell to Shakamak 41-34.
WRV scorers were: Max Hostetter 21 points, followed by Kobe Moorehouse, seven; and Dylan Moody, Trenton Fox, and Blake Arthur, two each.
