Eastern comeback effort comes up short

Trailing 11-7 with one last chance at the plate the Eastern Greene Thunderbirds nearly pulled off the comeback. The T-Birds scored three runs in the top of the seventh. But it wasn’t quite enough to catch the Mitchell Bluejackets, who put four runs on the board in the bottom of the sixth to put Eastern behind the eight-ball.

The T-Birds jumped all over Mitchell from the first pitch tallying five runs in the first inning. But the Jackets responded with three runs of their own in the home half of the first.

Eastern led 6-4 heading into the bottom of the fourth. Mitchell answered with three runs to take the lead. The T-Birds tied it with a run in the sixth before the Jackets’ four-run rally in the home half of the frame.

Eastern travels to North Knox Thursday.
