Come support the WRV’s Champions Together fundraiser for Special Olympics. On April 27, Cinco De Mayo Restaurant, in Lyons, will donate 10 percent of all profits the entire day to benefit Champions Together.

Lively Ladies will meet at Linton Public Library from 1-3 p.m. It is primarily for ladies of retirement age. Event features wide variety of guest speakers, some light refreshments and a fun time to relax.

The Greene County Master Gardeners will be hosting its annual Flower and Patio Show at the Greene County Community Event Center Friday from 10 a.m.-4 p.m., and Saturday from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. There will be a wide selection of vendors with plants, flowers, garden art, garden tools and more. New vendors have been added this year. Friday and Saturday there will be a presentation on “Fun with Gourds” at 11am, and “Healing Herbs You Can Use Every Day” at 1 p.m. Master Gardeners will be having a plant sale, gently used garden items for sale and free tree seedlings. Admission and parking are free.

The Worthington Garden Club will have a plant auction from 10 a.m. to noon at the Worthington City Park Community Building. Perennials, shrubs, herbs, annuals, crafts & more. Free food served. Take home treasures for your garden & home. Call 812-875-3734 for questions or donations.

Greene County General Hospital is a registered collection site for National Prescription Take Back Day today. Bring your unwanted medication from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Look for signs and a tent in the front main parking lot

The American Legion Auxiliary Post 172 in Jasonville is hosting a Fun Fair at Jasonville City Park, including fun, food and games. There will be a yard sale in the shelter house. Food available for purchase. Open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The Bloomfield Public Library will host a book discussion about Wuthering Heights. Ask for your copy at the desk.

All are welcome for Music Night at the Pleasantville Gym, which is located six miles South of Dugger on Highway 159. Doors open at 5 p.m. Acts include Evan Twitty, US 231 and Pickin’ & Grinnin’ playing country, bluegrass and some oldies. Admission is $10 each and kids under 12 get free admission. Tickets come with a meal of pulled pork sandwich with chips, potato salad and a drink while supplies last. Homemade pies are $2 per slice. Free admission for law enforcement.

Linton Public Library to host family movie matinee at 12:30 p.m. See the family-friendly release of “The Greatest Showman.” Rated PG. Free soda, popcorn and candy.

Sunday April 29

Pleasant Kentucky Ridge Baptist Church will host the Fifth Sunday Sing at 6:30 p.m., with dinner and desserts afterwards. Everyone is invited. Kentucky Ridge is on Highway 58 approximately 2.5 miles west of the Bloomington Crane Gate.

The Scotland Historical Society will host a soup supper from 5-7 p.m. at the Scotland Fire Station. On the menu will be chili, vegetable and potato soups; hot dogs and peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, desserts and drinks. The free-will donations will be used for the continued upkeep and maintenance of the Old Hotel, Old Barber Shop, Cady Grove and the Veteran’s Memorial owned by the Historical Society.

The Dugger Union Community Schools board will meet in executive session at 6 p.m.

American Legion Auxiliary Unit 479 of Lyons will host their monthly breakfast from 7-11 a.m.at the Post Home in Lyons. On the menu: bacon or sausage, biscuits and gravy, eggs fixed your way, fried potatoes, French toast or pancakes, juice, coffee or tea. The public is welcome and invited to attened.

Pleasant Grove Cemetery Association will hold its annual meeting on in the church fellowship hall at 5:30 p.m. Families are reminded that grave decorations which impede mowing should be removed.

The meeting of the Executive Board of the Greene-Sullivan Special Education Cooperative will meet in executive session at 9 a.m. with the regular meeting to follow at 10:30 a.m. in the conference room of the Greene-Special Education Cooperative, located at 77 A Street NE Linton.

The Greene County Veterans’ Council will meet at 7:30 p.m. at the American Legion Post 22 in Linton.

The Worthington Public Library will host a presentation about Worthington’s own Herbert O. Yardley at 6 p.m. The event will feature a presentation about the Indiana-born Superspy who helped shape modern American Intelligence, including a display of historical artifacts and current counters intelligence equipment (unclassified).

The National Association of Active and Retired Federal Employees (NARFE) Bloomfield Chapter 0847 will meet at the Casa Sevilla Restaurant in Bloomfield. The luncheon begins at 11:30 a.m. with the business meeting following at 12:30 p.m. All Federal employees, retirees and spouses are welcome to attend.

Walnut Grove Cemetery/Church will host Bloomfield American Legion Post 196 at 11:30 a.m. for a Veteran’s Salute followed at noon by a pitch-in dinner at the community building. Drinks and table service provided. At 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. they will present a Memorial Day program, honoring anyone interred there between May 1, 2017 and May 1 2018. Flowers will be presented to loved ones of those honored to place on the graves. Everyone is welcome.

In 1840, Peter Hasler Jr. traveled from Gsteigwiler, Switzerland to settle in Scotland, Ind. A celebration is planned for the descendants of Peter Hasler Sr. and Elisabeth (Kolb) Hasler on Sunday, July 15, 2018 at the Firehouse in West Gate, Scotland, Ind.

Full Life Development, a nonprofit organization that provides Christian programs in Thailand, is currently taking orders for beautiful mixed arrangement potted flowers. Jasonville Senior Citizen Center will serve breakfast on the first Friday of every month from 7-9:30 a.m. The Center is located one block off main street in downtown Jasonville and has a sign. Menu includes a full order of biscuits and gravy for $3.50 (half order $2); orange juice, biscuit, sausage patty, scrambled eggs and hash browns each for 75 cents; and free coffee. Eat in or carry out. This meal is open to the public and hosted by a non-profit organization.

American Legion Auxiliary of Worthington Post 106 will hold its monthly meeting on the first Wednesday of every month at 7 p.m. All are welcome to come and join.

The Linton-Stockton Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce the annual Linton Freedom Festival Scholarship Competition. The Queen scholarship competition is open to any young woman, who will be at least 17 years of age on June 2, 2018, and not exceeding 20 years of age on June 2, 2018, and is currently a student at Linton-Stockton High School (or residing within the Linton-Stockton School Corporation boundaries), or a graduate of Linton-Stockton High School.

Princess Pageant open to young ladies who are between the ages of 13 and 16 on or before June 2, 2018, and is currently a student in the Linton-Stockton School Corporation or resides within the Linton-Stockton School Corporation boundaries.

The winners and runner-ups will be crowned on Saturday, June 2, 2018, at the Linton Freedom Festival Scholarship Pageant. TO ENTER: Complete the application and submit it along with your picture and a copy of your birth certificate and return it to the Linton-Stockton Chamber of Commerce by Wednesday, March 21, 2018. Copies of the application are available at the Linton-Stockton Chamber of Commerce or at www.lintonfreedomfestival.org. Bloomfield American Legion Post No. 196 hosts Bingo Thursdays. Winner takes all 5:30 p.m. Indiana Blackout at 6:15 p.m. Early bird 6:30 p.m. and regular games at 7 p.m. The post hosts treasure hunt Fridays at 7 p.m. Open to the public.

Linton Public Library’s Coloring for Grownups is for adults on the first Tuesday of the month at 5:30 p.m.

Linton Public Library’s Adult Book Club on the second Monday of every month at 5 p.m. The current month’s book can be picked up at the circulation desk. All are welcome.

Linton Public Library’s yoga classes with Leah Gray are held every Friday morning at 9:30 a.m. Please bring your own mat or towel. No charge, but donations are welcome.

Good Samaritan Society-Shakamak will host a senior resource day from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the first Friday of every month.

The Knights of Columbus will be having its monthly breakfast on the third Saturday of each month from 7-10 a.m. at the Knights of Columbus Hall. Pricing for the breakfast will be $5 for adults and $7 for adults and children.

The Lyons Health and Living Center will host monthly Bingo on the third Monday of each month at 2:30 p.m. The community is invited.

Parents & Pollywogs (swim and water safety instruction for toddlers) at the Owen County Family YMCA, Tuesdays and Thursdays 6:15-6:45 p.m. Ages 6 months to 3 years. The Carnegie Heritage and Arts center senior music nights (first two Fridays of each month) have been moved to Autumn Trace on Lone Tree Road. The Center Township Board has established a schedule of regular meetings for the second Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. at the Center Township Fire Station, located at 11242 East State Road 54 in Bloomfield.

Every second and fourth Tuesday from 6 to 7 p.m. all people who knit are welcome to join the Bloomfield Public Library in the Reading Room. Patrons may bring their own projects to work on or get started with needles and yarn that the library can provide for their first work.

The Worthington Senior Citizens Center holds a breakfast on the second Thursday of every month from 9 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. On the last Wednesday of every month there is a pitch-in lunch. Every Tuesday evening at 6:30 there is a Euchre Tournament at a cost of $3. Bid Euchre is played Monday through Saturday at 9 a.m. and pinochle on Thursday and Friday at 1 p.m. 


The Greene County Soil and Water Conservation District Board of Supervisors will meet in the conference room at the USDA Building in Bloomfield on the first Tuesday of each month. Nov. through March, the meeting will begin at 7 a.m. April to Oct. the meeting will begin at 6 a.m.

The Bloomfield-Eastern Greene County Public Library provides free delivery of materials to any homebound patron living within the service district which includes residents of Richland, Beech Creek, Highland, Center, Taylor and Jackson Townships. Permanent or temporary homebound patrons are encouraged to contact the library at 384-4125 to begin delivery service.

The Alzheimer’s Support Group meets the first Monday of each month at the Switz City Christian Church at 6 p.m. Those with questions may call Linda at 798-1589.

The Lyons Community Food Pantry at 150 East Broad Street (the old fire station) will be open from 4 to 5:30 p.m. the third Monday of every month, and the first Saturday of the month from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. The pantry serves zip codes 47443 and 47465.

Lebanon Baptist Food Pantry will only be open on the fourth Thursday of each month from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

The Pleasantville United Methodist Church food pantry is now open on the fourth Saturday of the month from 10 a.m. until noon.

ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease) Support Group: Those with ALS and their loved ones are invited to attend the ALS Association’s monthly support group meeting on the second Thursday of the month from 6:30-8 p.m. Location: Comfort Keepers, 4101 E. 3rd St., Bloomington. The Bloomfield Public Library is establishing a bulletin board to be a central spot to look for local job listings and they hope to include any job openings that are within walking distance of Bloomfield town. If area businesses will notify the library when they have an opening, a flier will be created for them and posted on the bulletin board. The Eastern branch of the Bloomfield-Eastern Greene County Public Library will have Tot’s Time on Mondays at 10:15 a.m., Preschool Story Time on Wednesdays at 10:15 a.m., Fun Times on Wednesdays at 3:30 p.m., Book Club for grades eight and up at 7 p.m. discussing “Paper Towns” and book clubs for grades four to seven on Tuesdays at 3 p.m. discussing “Shiloh.”

The Scotland Historical Society has Greene County themed afghans to sell. The afghan features popular Greene County landmarks and consist of a list of all Greene County cities and towns lining the afghan. The multi-colored afghans sell for $45 each and may be purchased at Main Street Gifts in Linton or by calling Brenda Massette at 384-5118.

Making A Difference, a small group of Linton First Christian Church, will sponsor Second Saturday Soup each month, which will include free lunch for anyone from 11:30 a.m.–1 p.m. in the East Shelter House at Humphreys Park in Linton. Look for signs. Homemade lunch menu will vary.


The town of Switz City will conduct its monthly meetings on the first Monday of each month at 6:30 p.m. in the Switz City Town Hall. If the Monday falls on a holiday, the meeting will be conducted the following Tuesday. The town hall is located at 220 Charlotte Avenue in Switz City.

The Bloomfield-Eastern Greene Public Library will host Preschool Story time on Thursdays at 10:30 a.m. for ages 4-6 yrs. Come and listen to a children’s story read by Mrs. Linda and enjoy a craft.
