Alonzo J. "Lon" White
Alonzo J. "Lon" White, 88, of Linton, passed away peacefully at 1:26 p.m. on Tuesday, March 19, at Greene County General Hospital in Linton. He was born in Lyons on Dec. 24, 1930, the son of Dewey and Etta May (Lehman) White.
He married Bonnie L. (Combs) White on April 30, 1949.
Lon retired 33 years ago from Peabody Coal Company, Dugger Mine, where he did many jobs, retiring as a brakeman on the train.
He was a member of the Linton Assembly of God Church where he was a former deacon. He was also a member of the United Mine Workers of America, and was a more-than-50-year member of the Linton F&AM Masonic Lodge #560.
Lon enjoyed gardening, singing and spending time with his friends and family.
He is survived by his daughters: Leslie Camp (Charlie) of Edwardsville, Ill., Lynette Jacob (John) of Leesburg, Vir., Becky Rhodenbeck (Brian) of Linton, and Vera Eichhorst of Linton; his grandchildren: Amy Camp, Chris Camp, Stacey Winston, Justin Moore, Kristi Moore, Amy Jacob, Jackie Jacob, John Eichhorst, Broc Eichhorst, Nicole Rhodenbeck and Gerrit Eichhorst; 16 great-grandchildren; his brother, Cecil White of Indianapolis; two sisters: Delma June Zoetis of Leesburg, Vir., and Anna Lou Neff of Fortville; and a nephew, Victor Joe White.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Bonnie, on Aug. 16, 2016, and two brothers, Joe and Jess Perry White.
Funeral services will be held at Welch & Cornett Funeral Home in Linton at 1 p.m. on Friday, March 22, Rev. Dick Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Linton.
Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 5-8 p.m. Thursday, and from noon until the time of service Friday.
Memorial contributions may be given to the Linton Assembly of God Church, through the funeral home.
