FREE ACCESS: SR 54 to close near Ridgeport due to slide

Tuesday, June 4, 2019

GREENE COUNTY - The Indiana Department of Transportation announces an emergency closure on State Road 54 near the Ridgeport Community east of Bloomfield.

Beginning immediately, INDOT maintenance crews will close S.R. 54 at Crowe Road due to complications from a slide. Due to the slide, maintenance crews were called to repair a hole earlier this week after our Technical services team identified a concern beneath the driving lane. At this time, the hole has been stabilized. As a precaution, engineering and support staff at INDOT have recommended a road closure in this area to begin immediately and to stay in place until a project to correct the slide begins.

The slide correction project is scheduled for letting in September, but INDOT Vincennes District team members are working to accelerate that date.

During the closure, local traffic will have access up to the point of closure. All other traffic will need to follow the official detour using U.S. 231, I-69, S.R. 45 and S.R. 54.

  • i'm i reading this right that 54 will be closed till September??????

if this is right this is totally unacceptable as 100's if not 1000's of people travel that everyday and they need to just fix it now!!!!

it has been like this for almost 2 years!!!!

oh one other thing INDOT get Milestone back out and fix 54 right between Bloomfield and the white river bridge that has been less than a year and it's falling apart all ready!!!!!

BTW Milestone fixed the slide on 54 too and it didn't last either...

bump in the road signs don't cut it.....

  • I work for Milestone and was on the repair of both jobs you're referring to. Milestone is no different than any other contractors that due work for the state. The state tells them what to do and how they want it done. Correct or not, this is how they expect it done. The contractor rarely ever comes in and says this is how were going to do it and this is what you'll pay us to do it.

If you're going to point fingers or make accusations, please get your info correct and point your finger in the correct direction.

I love my job and am very proud of the company I work for. Very reputable and professional.

  • Can't they just chip and seal it?

That's how the "fix" the rest of the roads.

  • asjaanky69...i'm a contractor too and only thing i know is Milestone done the work and now it is falling apart....who ever needs to have a finger pointed INDOT or Milestone it is costing everyone A LOT more money than it should....i have to drive miles out of our way and spend more money on fuel because someone didn't do there job RIGHT!!

    that is the bottom line....

  • They should put up a stoplight as they do for bridge repair before someone gets killed on the county roads!

  • I totally agree. The roads in that area can’t handle the traffic placed upon them right now
