FREE ACCESS: Clothe-a-Child, Toys for Tots acceptance letters going out soon
The applications for Christmas assistance for nearly 400 children are being processed for the Greene County Clothe-a-Child and Toys for Tots Project.
The project serves children ages 12 and under in families who meet specified income criteria throughout the Greene County area by providing clothing and selected toys for each eligible child.
Letters notifying families of the benefits awarded will be mailed after Thanksgiving. Eligible families will receive vouchers to shop for clothing at Wal-Mart at specified times, and toys will be distributed on two days
1) Toy distribution will take place on Saturday, Dec. 14 for families in the eastern part of the county, between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. at the Bloomfield United Methodist Church (60 West Main St.) along with the traditional soup luncheon.
2) Families in the western area of the county will pick up toys on Thursday, Dec. 19 from 5-7 p.m. at the Saron United Church of Christ (440 1st Street NE) in Linton. Everyone is welcome to attend the community dinner served this evening at the same time and location.
The project needs support from the Greene County general public to be able to continue and hopefully increase the level of assistance given to those in need this Christmas. The community can contribute by donating toys, volunteering to collect donations from the public at the bell-ringing stations, or mailing contributions to Greene County Clothe-a-Child, PO Box 516, Linton, IN 47441.

Bell-ringers will be located in Linton at Wal-Mart and Orscheln’s, and Bloomfield at the Dollar General store. Bell-ringers are needed to fill out time slots and the earlier you call, the more choices you will have. Clubs, church groups and businesses are encouraged to sign up for a block of time. Volunteers who can take a block of time to help should call Deann Wolfe at 812-325-7397.
