Greene County Commissioners meet with varied agenda

On Tuesday, the GC Sheriff’s Department brought up a matter of excess vehicle sales, requesting approval to contact salvage regarding a 1997 Ford Explorer. Over the course of its career, the SUV was driven by the sheriff before being handed off to investigators for use. As the vehicle is no longer in operating condition, a motion was approved to contact salvage to dispose of it. Assessing the status of the county regarding the COVID-19 pandemic, President Nathan Abrams discussed Governor Holcomb’s Back on Track plan, mentioning the Governor had recommended Indiana stay at phase 4.5 until the end of July. The commissioners stated that the county will adhere to the recommended level of 4.5. County Attorney Marvin Abshire pointed out that the number of local cases reported has increased recently, with Greene County reporting the second highest number of cases statewide over the weekend. Executive Director of Economic Development Brianne Jerrels reported that her department has been consulting with Indiana University about potential signage installations for Greene County and will soon be researching the process of contacting the Indiana Department of Transportation for placement. Jerrels also said she has received positive feedback regarding the new county logo. Veterans Service Officer Richard Nichols reported an upcoming job opening for a driving position with the county. In closing, Nathan Abrams acknowledged the favorable outcome of the 4H Fair due to the leadership of Extension Educator of 4-H Youth Development, Malea Huffman. Abrams announced that the Greene County 4-H horse show broadcast had 4000 views and mentioned that Purdue Extension will reportedly be adopting the Greene County model in response to similar situations.
