Greene County on high alert from COVID-19 cases

The rise in COVID-19 cases

Due to the rapid spread of COVID-19 throughout the community, Greene County is in a state of high alert. According to the Greene County Health Department, there have been more positive cases in the past three weeks than during the entire pandemic.

Wear a mask in public and take the following everyday steps to control all respiratory viruses:

-Wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds or use hand sanitizer often.

-Cover cough and sneezes with a tissue; throw the tissue away and then, wash your hands.

-Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.

-Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces such as remotes, game controllers, and doorknobs.

-Avoid close contact with people who are sick and stay home if you are sick.

-Call your healthcare provider if you develop a fever, cough or difficulty breathing.

As cold and flu season approach, the Greene County Health Department is working to help keep residents safe from the threat of COVID-19. The health department offers a free COVID-19 testing site located on the grounds of the Greene County Highway Office at 855 N. 800 W, Switz City. The hours of operation are:

-Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

-Tuesday and Thursday from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.

-Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Testing will be available to all members of the public regardless of symptoms. Children as young as two years of age can be tested with parental consent.

Walk-ins are welcome, but to avoid waiting in line, individuals can register for an appointment by visiting scheduling.coronavirus.in.gov or by calling 812-384-4496.

Also, the health department has free masks and flu shots available to the public at 217 E. Spring St., Suite 1, Bloomfield. Phone ahead to avoid waiting for a mask or flu shot. Flu mist and high dose flu vaccine is available. The health department hours are Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

  • it would be nice to know how many people who are testing positive for covid are wearing masks not designed to stop a virus instead of blaming people who do not wear masks you want to stop a virus develope immunity to it you will stop it dead in its tracks

  • this wont end until your elected officials let it or the people let it end its gonna carry well into next year being the people want to continue believing the lies and wearing masks you probably should have those wet masks tested 6 feet social distance? a virus travels 15+ feet for a sneeze/cough give it a rest do us non maskers a favor and stop believing lies this isnt a new virus its a propaganda scheme

  • Granny47471 and others. Biden is NOT the president elect at this time. The winner has not been decided, no matter what you read or watch. The media can declare whatever they want, but that doesn't make it true. The electoral college will cast their votes on December 14. Then the Congress will count the electoral votes and declare a winner on January 6.
