The meeting of the Executive Board of the Greene-Sullivan Special Education Cooperative will meet in Executive Session at 9 a.m. with the regular meeting to follow at 9:30 a.m. in the Conference Room at the Greene-Sullivan Special Education Cooperative, 77 A St., N.E., Linton, Indiana.

The National Active and Retired Federal Employees (NARFE) Bloomfield Chapter 0847 will meet at the Casa Sevilla Restaurant in Bloomfield at 11:30 a.m. The business meeting will follow the luncheon and will include a silent auction of Christmas items with all proceeds to be donated to the Alzheimer’s Research Fund. All Federal Employees, retirees, and spouses are invited to attend.

November 12 – 29 the Shawnee Theatre will have the Festival of Trees as an online auction at wbauctioneerservice.hibid.com. Items may be viewed at the Shawnee Theatre on Furnace Road on Nov 20, 4-7 p.m. and Nov 21, 9-12 p.m. Auction will end on Nov. 29 and items will be available for pickup on Dec 1, 2-7 p.m. All proceed will support the 2021 season and theatre upkeep. Applications for Greene County families who need assistance to obtain clothing and toys for their children at Christmas through the Greene County Clothe-a-Child Project are available October 1 and continuing until October 31 at the following locations: Greene County Division of Family Resources (104 CR 70E, Bloomfield), Linton-Stockton Chamber of Commerce (159 1 St NW), Bloomfield Town Hall (12 E Main), Jasonville Utility Office (304 W Main) and Worthington Town Hall (SR 67 by the fire station). Families living in Greene County school districts who meet income guidelines are eligible to receive benefits for children 12 years old and under. Families who are approved will get vouchers to shop for new clothing for each eligible child, and a selection of toys will also be provided. Applications must be returned to any of the above locations or postmarked by October 31, 2020, to PO Box 516, Linton, IN 47441. Families will be notified by maile early in December indicating whether their application is approved.

Delta Nu Chapter, Tri Kappa of Worthington will be taking orders for cheese balls: Chipped beef or Cheddar. The cheese balls are $7.00 for a 12 oz cheese ball. See any Delta Nu member to order, or an order form will also be at the Carnegie Heritage & Arts Center.

The Scotland Cemetery Board of Directors is accepting donations to repair the blacktop. Donations can be mailed to Scotland Cemetery, c/o Tonjua Toon 7353 S West Gate Rd, Newberry, IN 47449. All donations to the cemetery are greatly appreciated.

Due to COVID-19, the Linton Public Library’s hours/procedures have slightly changed. Hours are presently Mon. & Wed. 10-6, Tues., Thurs., Fri. 10-5, and Sat. 10-3 (Closed 12-1 every day). COVID-19 capacity restrictions reduced the number of people allowed in the building. Please call ahead for Browsing/Computer reservations, if possible. Curbside Service is available, also. Craft Kits - We have take-home craft kits for preschoolers, elementary-aged kids and teens. New kits are offered monthly, or as demand requires.

Surprise Book Bags - Just give us a call and we will gather an assortment of 10 picture books for you to pick up at the library. We will even deliver them to your car.

Fun Videos for Kids are on the Linton Public Library’s Facebook page. Just scroll or click on “Videos” and “See All” to watch stories, silly songs and puppet fun with Miss Ginger, our Children’s/YA Librarian.

Teen Book Recommendation Videos are on the Linton Public Library’s Facebook page. Miss Ginger has checked out several quick YA books (which can be found in the library) and gives a review for you in these short videos. Just scroll or click on “Videos” and “See All” to find them, or go to the Linton Public Library’s Teen Page.

Adult Take Home Craft Kit- The Linton Public Library will provide all the decoration supplies you will need. You only will need to use your own scissors, glue/tape, etc. Stop in the library, or drive up and call us at 812-847-7802 and we will bring one out to your car for you. Limited supplies.

Edward L. Michael, as president of the board of The Greene County Solid Waste Management District, has announced that the District will extend its annual Tire Amnesty offering at the Greene County Recycling Center located at 4316 W Base Road, Switz City, Indiana until further notice. The Tire Amnesty project is funded by a Greene County Health Department grant and allows any Greene County resident to bring in four rimless pickup truck and passenger car tires, including ATV and lawn mower tires, to the recycling center at no charge. Subsequent tires for trucks and cars will be accepted at the rate of $2 each. Commissioner Edward L. Michael noted that the County is very fortunate to have the Health Department funded program. Old tires often hold water, which creates a breeding ground for mosquitoes that carry dangerous diseases.

The Bloomfield Town Council will conduct their regular monthly council meetings the first Tuesday of every month at 6 p.m., starting August 4, at the Bloomfield Community Building, 400 Lincoln Drive, Bloomfield. We will continue this schedule until further notice.

The Alzheimer Caregiver Support Group in Switz City is not holding face to face meetings right now due to COVID-19. GCGH’s Perinatal Navigators and Health Start are beginning free parenting classes every other Tuesday from 5-6 p.m. at the Saron United Church of Christ in Linton starting Feb. 25, 2020. The class is open to couples, single parents, foster parents, grandparents and more. Saron is located at 440 First Street NE, Linton. The Worthington Senior Citizens Center plays Bid Euchre Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon. On the last Wednesday of every month, there is a pitch-in lunch. Please support the Worthington Senior Citizens Center, as they run on donations only.

The Worthington American Legion Ladies Auxiliary will meet on the first Wednesday of each month at 7 p.m. at Post 106 in Worthington.

The Bloomfield First Baptist Church Community Food Pantry is located at 500 Lincoln Drive in Bloomfield. The pantry serves individuals and families in the following zip codes: 47424 Bloomfield, 47439 Koleen, 47449 Newberry, 47453 Owensburg/Desden, 47457 Scotland and 47522 Crane. The hours of operation are Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday morning from 9-11 a.m. and Tuesday evening from 4:30-6 p.m. Eligibility is determined by monthly/yearly income and proof of residence. All individuals or family may visit once a month and proof of residence is required each visit.

The Friends of the Bloomfield Library Book Shop is in the Library Annex on the square across from the Court House in Bloomfield. The Book Shop is open Tuesdays 10-1, Wednesdays 10-1, Thursdays 1-4 and first Saturdays 1-4. The Friends of the Bloomfield Library Book Shop has a great selection of gently used, nearly new donated books, DVDs, CDs. All proceeds are used to support Library projects.

Center Township Trustee meeting will be the second Tuesday of every month at 6 p.m. at the Center Township Fire Department.

Frontotemporal Degeneration (FTD) support group meets on the second Tuesday each month at 6 p.m. at Redemption Christian Church in Loogootee. This group is for caregivers of those affected by FTD. The group will share the most accurate and current information about FTD and provide a space to share resources and provide peer support for care partners.

The Coal City American Legion presents a Gun and Knife Show the second Saturday of every month from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Coal City Fire Department. Entry fee is $2.

Beginning August 8 and continuing every Wednesday at 9 a.m, Autumn Trace Assisted Living, located in Linton, will host Faithful Fitness 3:21, an exercise class for those with limited mobility. Chairs will be provided and classes are open to all ages. The public is welcome to attend. Donations will be accepted, but are not required nor expected.

Jasonville Senior Citizen Center will serve breakfast on the first Friday of every month from 7-9:30 a.m. The Center is located one block off Main street in downtown Jasonville and has a sign. Menu includes a full order of biscuits and gravy for $3.50 (half order $2); orange juice, biscuit, sausage patty, scrambled eggs and hash browns each for 75 cents; and free coffee. Eat in or carry out. This meal is open to the public and hosted by a non-profit organization.

Linton Public Library’s Adult Book Club on the second Monday of every month at 5 p.m. The current month’s book can be picked up at the circulation desk. All are welcome.

Good Samaritan Society-Shakamak will host a senior resource day from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the first Friday of every month.

The Carnegie Heritage and Arts center senior music nights (first two Fridays of each month) have been moved to Autumn Trace on Lone Tree Road. The Lyons Community Food Pantry at 150 East Broad Street (the old fire station) will be open from 4 to 5:30 p.m. the third Monday of every month, and the first Saturday of the month from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. The pantry serves zip codes 47443 and 47465.

Lebanon Baptist Food Pantry will only be open on the fourth Thursday of each month from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

The Pleasantville United Methodist Church food pantry is now open on the fourth Saturday of the month from 10 a.m. until noon.

The Bloomfield Public Library is establishing a bulletin board to be a central spot to look for local job listings and they hope to include any job openings that are within walking distance of Bloomfield town. If area businesses will notify the library when they have an opening, a flier will be created for them and posted on the bulletin board. The American Legion Post 22 in Linton will be having its regular meeting at 7 p.m. rather than 8 p.m. on the second and last Thursday of every month.

The Scotland Historical Society has Greene County themed afghans to sell. The afghan features popular Greene County landmarks and consist of a list of all Greene County cities and towns lining the afghan. The multi-colored afghans sell for $45 each and may be purchased at Main Street Gifts in Linton or by calling Brenda Massette at 384-5118.

Making A Difference, a small group of Linton First Christian Church will sponsor Second Saturday Soup each month, which will include free lunch for anyone from 11:30 a.m.–1 p.m. in the East Shelter House at Humphreys Park in Linton. Look for signs. Homemade lunch menu will vary.

The town of Switz City will conduct its monthly meetings on the first Monday of each month at 6:30 p.m. in the Switz City Town Hall. If the Monday falls on a holiday, the meeting will be conducted the following Tuesday. The town hall is located at 220 Charlotte Avenue in Switz City.

The Bloomfield-Eastern Greene Public Library will host Preschool Storytime on Thursdays at 10:30 a.m. for ages 4-6 yrs. Come and listen to a children’s story read by Mrs. Linda and enjoy a craft.
