FREE ACCESS: Family of Linton house fire survivors asking public for help
Wednesday’s electrical fire at 269 IN-54 has displaced a Linton family. Now, the family of the destroyed home’s occupants, Kenny and Ruby Roach, are asking for assistance from the community to help them get back on their feet.
Breely Carpenter is the girlfriend of Kenny’s grandson, Kyle Myers. Carpenter said although she and Myers live in Florida, “we are trying the best we can to help without actually being there.”
Carpenter has been rallying assistance from local churches, friends and family in Linton and the surrounding area.
Carpenter explained, “I have been replying to people’s posts on Facebook saying they want to help out.”
Although she and Myers have been paying for the Roach family to stay in a hotel room since the fire, Carpenter is not sure how much longer the family can afford it on their own. In addition to needing help paying for lodging, the family needs help finding a rental with handicap accessibility, clothing and food.
“Once they get a rental, they will need everything. They lost everything in the fire...bed, dresser, furniture, TV, kitchen utensils, cookware items, etc.”
For those that wish to donate clothing to the couple, Carpenter says Kenny wears size 30x30 pants, XL shirts, and size 9 shoes. Ruby wears clothing L and size 8 shoes.
According to Carpenter, Linton resident Sandra Medlin has been visiting the couple, “making them a hot meal and checking in on them every day.”
Carpenter is asking those that wish to donate to contact her at (317) 478-3792.
“Losing everything besides the clothes on your back in the middle of winter and not having a place to call home is just devastating.”
