GCHD to hold pop-up clinic for ages 60 and older

Wednesday, February 24, 2021

The Greene County Health Department has announced that Hoosiers aged 60 and older are now eligible for COVID-19 Vaccination.

To accommodate the latest eligibility group, Greene County has been selected to host the State’s District 7 Mobile Vaccine Unit. Greene County’s Pop-up Vaccination Clinic will be held on:

Thursday, Feb. 25 to Saturday, Feb. 27 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the 4H Fairgrounds, 4508 W. SR 54, Bloomfield.

Pfizer’s COVID-19 Vaccine will be administered. Registration is required. Go to https://vaccine.coronavirus.in.gov/, select your eligibility status, enter your zip code, and select “Greene County Fairgrounds PVAX” as your location.

The Pop-up Clinic will return March 18 to March 20 to administer second doses. GCHD urges residents to schedule an appointment as soon as possible.

The department will continue administering Moderna COVID-19 Vaccine at the First Baptist Church, 500 Lincoln Drive, Bloomfield; clinic name is “Greene County HD COVID MVAX”.

Remember to sign-up for the v-safe after vaccine health checker.

GCHD Administrator Shari Lewis wrote:

Congratulations Greene County! We are trending in the right direction; our county currently has a two-metric score of 0.5 (blue) based on the 7-day average of positive cases and rate of cases per 100,000.

Yellow is this week’s county color code advisory map due to a yellow status within the past two weeks. If we continue to mask-up, social distance, stay home when you are sick and get tested, and those who are eligible get vaccinated, we can accomplish a more improved advisory level.

See Executive Order 21-02, outlining requirements based on county color code metrics at https://www.in.gov/gov/governor-holcomb/newsroom/executive-orders/ and the updated county color-coded guidance here: https://www.in.gov/gov/files/Feb-1-to-Feb-28-Coronavirus-Response-Requirements.p... (including updated school color-coded guidance).

The Greene County Health Officer, Peter Powers, MD, recommends “individuals who require home health care or in-home assistance should be vaccinated to protect themselves from home care providers or direct support providers who may have contracted COVID-19.”

The Greene County Health Department wants to help aged and disabled homebound individuals by participating in the Homebound Hoosier Program. At the end of each clinic day, the health department will check the portal for Hoosier in need of mobile vaccine administration and coordinate with Greene County EMS.

To qualify for the Homebound Hoosier Program, 1) individuals must need special transportation, the assistance of another person to leave their home, OR have a medical condition that makes leaving home an issue AND 2) the normal ability to leave the home must be a considerable challenge.

The Homebound Hoosier Program is an Indiana Family & Social Services Administration (FSSA) initiative. Greene County resides in FSSA Area 13. The Area Agency on Aging (AAA) organization is:

  • Unable to register on the state site, said appointment times are not available

  • Yep, that's what it said when I tried to do it, too.

  • According to 211, all of the appointments are already taken!

  • While this site link should work, others have used ourshot.in.gov. Click the registration link in the red bar, select Greene County and preferred vaccine site location, which for the pop-up clinic is Greene County Fairgrounds. A box pops up that includes "Click here to register". If the pop-up turns out to be "sold out", I will update this comment.

  • An error message will result if you already have a scheduled vaccination at a later date and do not cancel that appointment first. There remain plenty of vaccination slots for the 25th, 26th, and 27th.

Greene County residents requiring assistance with scheduling for the pop-up vaccination site may call 211 (they can help cancel a later vaccine appointment) or the Greene County Health Department at (812) 384-4496.
