FREE ACCESS: Linton police, Northwest Bank warn of scam alert

Over the weekend, Linton Police Department issued a warning sent out by Northwest Bank regarding a scam alert being received by Northwest customers.

The warning consisted of an email sent from the bank, which read as follows:

“At Northwest, the security of your accounts is our top priority.

Why are you receiving this message?

We recently learned that some customers may have received a fraudulent text alert claiming that their Northwest debit card is locked and to call a number, in some cases in Minneapolis, Minn., prompting them to enter their 16-digit card number.

Please be advised, this is a fraudulent text (example below) and did not come from Northwest.

What should you do?

If you received the text, do nothing. We will never contact you and ask you to provide any personal information.

If you responded to the fraudulent text and provided your 16-digit debit card number, please call the toll-free number located on the back of your card: 1-800-523-4175.
