FREE ACCESS: Weather warning for Wednesday evening

Tuesday, April 12, 2022

With the possibility for incoming severe weather on Wednesday, April 13, Greene County Emergency Management Agency (GCEMA) issued a release encouraging residents to reconsider any evening events Wednesday evening.

“Severe weather could strike Greene County tomorrow (Wednesday) evening between 5 p.m. and 12 a.m.,” said Director of Greene County EMA, Roger Axe. “In a statewide conference call with the National Weather Service (NWS) Tuesday, we were advised there would be rain off-and-on most of Wednesday. If there is a break in the rain and the sun comes out and heats the air, it will become unstable and increase the chance of tornadic activity and strong winds."

According to NWS, the critical time for the severe weather is from 5 p.m. to midnight Wednesday.

"Several organizations have activities planned for Wednesdays. GCEMA is asking people to think if they really need to have such events if there is a potential of severe weather and for those attending to be in possible dangerous weather.

However, if organizations decide to have their events they need to keep an eye on the sky. The question is, ‘Is such an event worth putting lives at possible risk?’”

NWS says there will be multiple rounds of showers and storms Wednesday morning, afternoon and evening and says the threat for strong-to-severe storms is low in the morning but will increase slightly in the afternoon with winds, hail and a tornado possible.

According to the NWS, the main threat for severe weather comes with a line of strong storms in the evening, a line that has the potential to produce damaging winds and some tornadoes.

NWS encourages residents to be weather-aware and ready to act as there is potential for power outages and property damage.
