Still time to sign up for Open Arms 5K race

There is still time to sign up for the 10th Annual Open Arms 5K Run/Walk set for Saturday, June 4 at the Worthington Town Park.

Proceeds from this year’s event are earmarked for therapeutic services for Open Arms residents and foster children.

There will be a competitive 5K walk, as well as a one-mile family run/walk. The in-town course begins and ends at Worthington Town Park. The course is flat and competitive for all age levels.

The 5K race begins at 8 a.m. and registration opens at 7 a.m..

This timed race promises to be bigger in terms of participants with an ongoing affiliation with the Magnificent 7 (Mag 7) race series. Founded in 1997, the Mag 7 series markets and promotes more than 25 road races in seven counties in south-central Indiana, including Greene, Monroe, Morgan, Lawrence, Orange, Owen and Brown.

This race is a community-supported event. Proceeds will go toward therapeutic environments for the youth served by Open Arms Christian Ministries.

Support for this year’s race from the business community has been outstanding with two elite corporate sponsors, Poole Mill Produce and Risa Dyar Real Estate

“These two sponsors contributed significantly above the corporate sponsorship level showing a sincere support for our 5K event,” Open Arms Community Relations Director Nick Schneider said, “We sincerely appreciate their generosity to our ministry.”

“Open Arms is proud to be able to offer this quality race," Schneider added. "We appreciate the runners and walkers who support this event every year and by doing so, they support our growing ministry.”

Early race (5K run, 5K competitive walk and one-mile family walk/run) entry fee is $20 per person until Friday, May 27. There will be a $25 per person registration fee after that date. All entries include a specially-designed t-shirt.

In the 5K run, medals will be awarded to best overall racer, as well as the first and second-place finishers in each age category for males and females.

Cost of the kid’s fun run is $10 per person and does not include a t-shirt. A shirt can be purchased for $10.

This Friday, May 27, is the deadline to register to have the shirt for the day of the race.

Registration begins at 7 a.m. with 5K Run/Walk Race at 8 a.m.; followed by the Family Walk/Run at 8:05 a.m.. The Kids Fun Run will begin at 9 a.m..

Run/walk age categories are ages 14 and under; age 15-19; age 20-29; age 30-39; age 40-49; age 50-59; age 60-69 and age 70 and over. Kid’s runs will be conducted in the following age groups: age 4 and under (one lap around the park), ages 4-6 (two laps around the park); and ages 7-11 (four laps around the park, about one mile).

There are a host of give-a-ways that will be offered to participating runners and walkers.

Race registration can be completed at Open Arms’ website at www.openarmschristian.com and then clicking on the ‘Events’ tab. Registration forms can also be picked up at the Open Arms administrative office, located on State Road 54, east of Switz City (directly across the road from the Greene County Fairgrounds) or at our Lyons campus, located at 2417 S. County Road 800 North (the former Lyons Health and Living Building).
