Linton coach arrested on public intoxication charge in Clay County
Linton boys basketball coach Joey Hart was arrested by the Clay County Sheriff's Department on a preliminary charge of public intoxication at approximately 4:15 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 31.
According to an official at the Clay County Jail, Hart was arrested for public intoxication and taken to the Clay County Jail with bond set at $3,000. As of 1 p.m. on Saturday, he had not posted bail.
Hart recently won his 400th game, and his Linton teams have won 20 or more games a season for the last 10 years. The 10-year stretch is a state record for the 20-win achievement.
Hart took the Miners to the Class 2A state championship game in 2013 and 2019. His team won the First Financial Bank Wabash Valley Classic on Thursday night for the first time in school history.
The Miners are 10-1 and currently ranked No. 2 in Class 2A. Their next game is Thursday against St. Joseph-Ogden of Illinois. Linton will host Evansville Christian on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
Linton Athletic Director Darren Clayton told The Greene County Daily World he is aware of the situation but declined to comment until more specifics of the arrest are known.
The Linton-Stockton Board of School Trustees held an emergency executive session on Monday, January 2, but have released no information on any subjects under discussion nor decisions made.
