Ralph Edgar “Boomie” Vaught

Ralph Edgar “Boomie” Vaught, 89, of Bloomfield, passed away on Sunday, January 29, 2023 at the IU Health Hospice House in Bloomington.

Born August 22, 1933 in Bedford, he was the son of George L. and Florence A. (Brown) Vaught.

Boomie was the co-owner and operator of the Jordan & Vaught Insurance Agency in Bloomfield. He was a member of the Bloomfield First Christian Church and past Deacon, he was presented the 2003 Harvey Hannah Community Service Award by the Bloomfield Chamber of Commerce and on May 7, 2005 honored when the North Side Diamonds were named “Vaught Field” in appreciation for the 25 years of support and service to Bloomfield Little League. He was a charter member and fifth president of the Bloomfield Jaycees, he helped construct the Jaycees building, was one of the founders of the Bloomfield Apple Festival sponsored by the Bloomfield Jaycees, was elected Jaycee senator, the highest honor for a member. He served as a Bloomfield Band Booster for four years, was Greene County Chairman of the March of Dimes from 1973-1976. He conducted four March of Dimes fundraising walks, he drove a fan bus for Bloomfield School sports fans for three years during Guy Glover’s coaching tenure, he sold admission tickets for Bloomfield School District basketball games from 1988 to 2022. As co-owner of Jordan & Vaught Insurance Agency, he sponsored youth programs including girls softball and boys baseball teams for many years.

Surviving relatives include his children, G. Michael Vaught (Roberta), Steven Edward Vaught, Karen Harp (Steve), William Joseph Vaught (Christine), James Andrew Vaught (Dana) and Patrick Dean Vaught; 12 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his wife Sharon Elizabeth Vaught on January 11, 2023; one son, Jerry Lee Vaught; a brother, Dick Vaught; a granddaughter, Phylicia Michelle Vaught; one great-granddaughter, Everly Kate Montgomery and his parents.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, February 7, 2023 at Jenkins Funeral Home in Bloomfield, with Scott Chastain officiating. Interment will follow in Beech Grove Cemetery in Bedford.

Public visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. on Monday and one hour prior to services on Tuesday at the funeral home.

The family asks that all memorial contributions be made to the Bloomfield High School Athletic Department.
