Phyllis Irene Groves

Phyllis Irene Groves, 92, of Bloomfield passed away May 24, 2023, at Ketcham Memorial Center in Odon.

Born in Greentown on May 21, 1931, she was the youngest daughter of Charles and Nellie (Odell) Howell.

Her life was strongly influenced by her upbringing on the family farm and the love of her family. She was a woman of great faith who always put God and her family first. She created beautiful cross-stitched pictures and enthusiastically played Euchre and Uno. She was known for her infectious laughter and her kindness.

Phyllis graduated from Greentown High School in 1950 and, after raising her three children, worked at RCA and as a custodian at Bloomfield Elementary School. She was a member of the Bloomfield First Christian Church, loved singing in the choir and cherished the friendship of her fellow choir members.

She is survived by the lights of her life, one daughter, Brenda Groves Roach of Bloomfield; one son, Wayne (Lisa) Groves of Odon; one son-in-law Ron Mattox of Punta Gorda, Fla.; grandchildren, Tim Mattox, Pat (Sherri Rickrode) Mattox, Mike Mattox, Jennifer (Mike) Miller, Sarah (Anthony) Ascare, Keith (Amanda) Roach and Austin Roach; and her grandchildren, Lucas Miller, Claire Miller, Avery Roach and Margot Roach.

She was preceded in death by these deeply loved and missed family members, her parents; her sisters, Colleen Smith and Mary Seagrave; her daughter, Debby Groves Mattox; and her son-in-law Chuck Roach.

There will be a private graveside service. Please consider making a donation in her memory to Bloomfield First Christian Church or Ketcham Memorial Center.
