Lady Bulldogs start season 0-2

The Dugger softball team has started the season 0-2 after falling to Martinsville and Clay City.

The Lady Bulldogs host Cloverdale on Monday, Apr. 1 for their home opener.

Against Martinsville on Tuesday, March 19, the Lady Bulldogs fell 13-5.

Dugger trailed 3-2 after the first inning before Martinsville added two runs in the second inning.

Dugger responded with two runs in the third, but Martinsville chipped in three runs to take an 8-4 lead before scoring five runs in the fifth to put the game out of reach.

Both senior Brae Simpson and junior Arianna Frazee had two runs and two hits, each adding an RBI and a double.

Senior Brinna Simpson added two hits and two RBIs, while senior Emily Neff had one run and a stolen base.

Junior Jordyn Smith added one hit as the team had seven hits total.

Frazee had eight put outs for the team, while Smith had five.

Sophomore Sage Stahl added two put outs, while Brae and Brinna Simpson joined senior Allison Faught each with one put out.

Brinna Simpson, Stahl and junior Kylie Gerig each pitched, with Simpson giving up two hits and five runs, striking out two.

Stahl struck out four, giving up two hits and seven runs while Gerig gave up no hits and one run while striking out three.

On Friday, March 22 against Clay City, Dugger fell 20-6.

Clay City jumped out to a 16-0 lead after the first two innings and never looked back, despite Dugger scoring five runs in the fourth inning.

Frazee, junior Hillary Flores-Vasquez, Smith and Gerig each had one hit, with Smith adding two runs.

Frazee had one run, while Flores-Vasquez had one run and two RBIs, while Gerig had one run and one RBI.

Brinna Simpson had one run, while Brae Simpson had an RBI.

Freshman Jalee Brumbarger added one RBI.

Brinna Simpson, Smith and Gerig all pitched, with Simpson giving up eight hits and 12 runs, striking out one.

Smith gave up one hit and four runs, while Gerig gave up seven hits and four runs, striking out one.

Up next for the 0-2 Lady Bulldogs is their home opener on Monday, Apr. 1 against Cloverdale.
