Get geared up for school at the Third Annual GC Back to School Health Fair
The Greene County Health Department will hold the Third Annual Greene County Back to School Health Fair from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, August 10 at the Greene County Event Center at the 4-H Fairgrounds (4503 W State Road 54 in Bloomfield).
The free-admission event is open to all Greene County students, their families and the community and attendees will walk away with everything they need to start the school year off right.
The Greene County Health Department, led by Health Administrator Shari Lewis and Health Officer Dr. Peter Powers, wants to make sure students and their families are set up for a healthy and successful school year and that all residents have the support needed for a healthy community.
“A successful school year starts with focusing on wellness for the entire family,” Powers said. “Let’s start the school year strong by making sure our children and their families are supported.”
The freebies are plenty at this event, including immunizations for children ages five to 18, sports physicals, lead-level testing for kids ages one to six, blood pressure, cholesterol, glucose and A1C screenings for adults and medication information and review for seniors.
But wait, there’s more. Much more.
School-aged children (ages five to 18) will receive free haircuts and brand-new school supplies as well as a “school survival kit” that includes a lunch bag, water bottle, knapsack, bookbags and other school supplies while supplies last.
In addition, each school-aged child who is immunized or receives a sports physical at the event will also receive a new pair of school shoes, in the form of a $50 voucher to use at Shoe Show in Linton and each household visiting the Health Fair will receive a Food as Medicine $25 gift card redeemable at the Linton Farmer’s Market.
But wait, there is even more.
The Greene County Ambulance Service will be on site, offering first aid and CPR demonstrations and TeamWork Indiana will host family workouts throughout the day.
Want more? You’ve got it.
There will also be activities, games, prizes, face painting and free hot dogs, popcorn and snow cones and food trucks on site for purchases will be Smokin’ Pete’s, Chum Chariot and Delicias Rosita.
That’s a lot of free stuff, and there’s one more thing.
