It's Time to Begin: Terry's back home
LeBron James has returned home to Cleveland, and Terry Schwinghammer has returned home to Linton. There the similarities end...
After living in Indianapolis for over twenty years, I have come home to Linton. Linton, Indiana. The place where I grew up, went to school, played sports, couldn't wait to leave, and ultimately, couldn't wait to come back home to. I'll be covering sports as a sports reporter for the Greene County Daily World. Who could have ever imagined?
An exciting adventure awaits me. I get to attend sporting events and write about sports! How cool is that! I look forward to getting to know the area coaches and working with them, and getting to know the student athletes.
High school sports in smaller rural communities such as ours are unique and special. Community spirit and passion makes it so. Area Residents are passionate about their Cardinals/Thunderbirds/Wolverines/Lakers/Miners/Bulldogs. Our schools and our teams are sources of community pride.
Greene County has been fortunate to have quite a number of outstanding student athletes in recent years. These are good kids, hardworking kids of quality character. One day, they will look back on their experiences and appreciate them for what they were. One reason coaches, administrators, and yes, even sportswriters, do what they do, is it's all about helping to create the best possible experiences for these student athletes.
Classes are starting, teams are practicing; soon there will be hints of autumn in the air. A new season filled with anticipation, optimism and hopeful expectations is upon us.
Let the games begin!
