Social media platforms have my head spinning
Something my staff and I take very seriously is trying to ensure important news reaches as many of our readers as possible, including the younger people, which means a special focus on social media.
I have a secret to share: I’m feeling pretty old. Not only because my knees literally creak when I walk sometimes, but because the ever-changing social platforms have my head spinning.
I was in middle school when MySpace made it big. I was an emo-kid who loved to put sad song lyrics in my bio. I pushed back a bit when all my friends made the shift to Facebook when I was in college, but by-golly, I kept up with the social trend. I mean, it wasn’t that hard. There were only two options and one was bought out later, leaving Facebook as the social media giant.
But now? Whoa. It’s enough to make your head spin. Right now we have a presence on Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat and Instagram. And that’s not even the half of it! I try to keep up with the trends as not only a way to stay “young and hip” as I near my 30th birthday, but also for work-related reasons. Our Instagram is a pretty decent hit for on-site sharing, but Facebook continues to be the best avenue for us to share our content.
But, in all that continued search for social apps, I’ve managed to find my personal favorite.
Boomerang.
It’s true to the name. It’s a short burst of images, approximately six seconds, and upon replay speeds it up and plays backward and forward.
My current favorite things to Boomerang are my dog chasing her tail and my daughter in her bouncer seat. Also, there's one of my nephew viciously "dabbing" in order to make my daughter laugh. I can’t get enough of it and gives me a serious case of the giggles.
I hope these videos tickle your funny bone as much as they do mine.
