It’s not goodbye, it’s see ya later
Nine years ago this month, I started on the journey of a lifetime. But, like some journeys, occasionally you find a fork in the road that you have to take in order to satisfy that calling you hear coming from your heart.
Friday, March 27 will be my last day at the Greene County Daily World.
The last nine years have been a wild ride. I’ve laughed. I’ve cried -- both happy and sad tears. I’ve had people say the most kind things to me, and also the most hurtful.
I spent these years surrounded by the community that I love. I have forged relationships that I believe will last me a lifetime, both inside the walls of the Greene County Daily World’s office and throughout all of Greene County.
When I took this job at the Greene County Daily World straight out of college (thanks to Chris Pruett for having faith in me) I never thought I’d get married. Yet, a few years ago, I met Logan, the man of my dreams, and tied the knot. A year and a half later, we welcomed the most beautiful and smart little girl into our world.
My world has changed dramatically since I first walked through the doors of 79 S. Main Street, and with that, I’ve decided to rethink my time and career.
I’ve been blessed to work for a company that puts family on a pedestal, but in the world of print and digital journalism, there are no set hours and no stop to the emails and phone calls all hours of the day and night.
I’m lucky enough to find a new career path where I’ll know when I’ll get home to my daughter, and reduce the number of times I have to pick her up from daycare, only to take her to another sitter so I can attend a meeting.
I’m very proud of the last 4.5 years I’ve spent as editor of the Greene County Daily World. I feel like we have made great strides in public perception and building a bond with our community leaders. Honestly, Patti and I have worked so hard to do this because we love every single one of you, our readers and advertisers who keep the business afloat, and we have a deep value and appreciation for each and every one.
I hope you all continue to read this newspaper to stay up-to-date on your local news. The Greene County Daily World is your sole reliable source focused on all things Greene County.
With all that being said, I hope to come back as a freelance writer to help out when I’m needed. I know my fingers will be itching to fly across the keyboard.
Sabrina is the editor of the Greene County Daily World. After Friday, she will not regularly be checking her email, so you should email pattippdanner@gmail.com.
