Treasurer’s office preparing for annual tax sale
With the recent celebration of Independence Day and the enjoyment of the 113th Linton Freedom Festival Parade, Greene County is pressing on during strenuously hot weather for the month. Here in the Treasurer’s Office we are preparing for our annual tax sale with SRI Services.
We will have to admit that it is one of our least favorite tasks in the office but a requirement of the job none the less.
The 2018 tax sale is scheduled for Aug. 30 at 10 a.m. with check in beginning at 9 a.m. on the 3rd floor of the Greene County Courthouse in the Commissioner’s Room.
The tax sale list will be available for review online July 18, in conjunction with publication in the Greene County Daily World, at SRI’s site. Click here to visit the site.
We are excited to have a few points to share regarding our progress in the office. We have earned enough interest through our county banks to cover the annual cost to operate our office for 2017 and 2018 already. First Financial Bank, Owen County State Bank and Farmers & Mechanics have worked diligently with us to make sure Greene County continues to grow.
Our projection is to be over $500,000 in interest earned by the end of the year and at $1,000,000 by the end of our four years.
We have corrected, updated and completed almost 200 payment plans to now less than 20. We have provided the county with multiple ways to pay across the county, online and by phone. We are working to bring text to pay and e-billing within the next tax year.
We have expanded our workload and are now collecting county-wide Innkeepers Tax this year as established by the State of Indiana and recently adopted in Greene County. The businesses that are required to collect the new tax have been working hard and diligent in their reporting.
Our office is also responsible for maintaining a current list of residences in the county that have been exposed to methamphetamine as we are not allowed to sell a property on tax sale that hasn’t been deemed clean by the Health Department.
We have also ensured that the bank accounts have been reconciled and State Board of Accounts is here completing their Auditing requirements for 2016 and 2017.
If there are any concerns or issues that need to be addressed, please feel free to contact me at any time. We are always here to help and I do answer my phone and email after hours if this something that arises that needs to be resolved. I have told many people to not worry overnight about taxes, just contact me. We can work through it.
Remember, the fall due date is Nov. 13 due to Veterans Day this year!
