Scenes from the Annual Lyons Strawberry Festival

Sunday the town park in Lyons was bustling with activity. Throughout the day there was live music, organized by Sheriff Terry Pierce, a Classic Car Drive-In, ice cream and strawberry shortcake. and other delicious food prepared by the local Boy Scout troop and others. There was variety of vendors set up in the park White River Valley Lyons Elementary School sixth-grader McKinley Frye reigned over the festival as the 2013 Strawberry Festival Queen. She was selected based on academic achievement.

Ken Fordyce's 'Rat Rod' was a big hit at the car cruise-in that was part of the Strawberry Festival on Sunday. The Rat Rod is a converted 1948 International Harvester KB5 1 1/2 ton pickup that's now equipped with a 460 HP engine. Fordyse said the unusual vehicle is licensed and he enjoys driving it on the road and making head's turn in amazement. Here, John Coleman and Dr. William Powers, M.D., both of Lyons, along with Ed Wright of Columbus, take a close look at this mechanical creation. That's Fordyce standing to the right rear of his vehicle.

The Lyons Strawberry Festival provided a time to chat and fellowship for many.

There was a steady stream of people attending the festival for most of the day. The parade, on Saturday morning, was rained out.
