Members of the Traildusters Saddle Club, Mayor Larry Watters and the City of Jasonville, plus plenty of visitors gathered at Hanna Park in Jasonville Saturday for the Third Annual Old West Day.
The rootin’ tootin’ event included vendor booths, food trucks, free beans and cornbread, a petting zoo, pony rides, demonstrations by real cowboys and Native Americans from an organization in Terre Haute representing the Miami, Shawnee, Potawatomi, Kickapoo, Piankashaw and Delaware tribes, a Little Miss Cowgirl and Mister Cowboy contest organized by Candra Pointer, live country/gospel music by “Keeping it Simple”, a trail ride around town led by a sheriff’s car (without sirens) with a stop at Good Samaritan Nursing Home and an all-equine parade down Main Street leading back to Hanna Field.
Next year’s event is already in the works, said Traildusters Saddle Club spokesman Bob Chattin. “Next year, the event will be held September 9,” he advised.
