Volunteers really do make a big difference

To the Editor:

This week (April 27-May 3) is Volunteer Appreciation Week, and at the American Cancer Society, volunteers do make the difference.

We have amazing volunteers: There are volunteers who are breast cancer survivors and visit with newly diagnosed patients; volunteers who give their time to drive their own car to make sure that patients get to life saving treatment; volunteers who are cosmetologists and work with our Look Good … Feel Better program, volunteers who serve on committees for their church, with the Body & Soul program, volunteers who work with Daffodil Days and deliver sunshine and daffodils in the gray days of early March, volunteers who distribute wigs to patients for free and volunteers who make sure that our day to day operations run smoothly!

And I couldn't forget our Relay For Life volunteers, who are some of the most dedicated and wonderful people I know. They give 150 percent and make you celebrate, remember, and fight back against the disease!

I want to thank each and every one of them for everything they do! They are truly making a difference!
